Make sure the cable or joint is clean, dry and free of oil and dust. Start the tape on a sound area, then wrap it around the joint with a slight stretch and an overlap on each turn so there are no gaps. Carry on past the end of the join onto the cable insulation, then finish with a firm press down of the tail so it sits flat.
