The core provides the stretch and recovery, while the jacket is designed to resist abrasion. Grunt describes it as UV protected and resistant to oil, petrol, rot, mildew, sunlight and general weathering, so it suits outdoor use where a rigid rope would not cope with movement.

Where to use it
Indoors: bundling and securing items in the shed or garage, and making simple elastic ties for storage and DIY projects.
Outdoors: holding down tarpaulins, and securing trailer, boat and caravan covers, as well as camping gear and loads.

How to use it

Cut the cord to the length you need with sharp scissors or a knife.

Tie secure knots at each end, or fit hooks or fittings that suit a 4mm cord.

Stretch the cord over the cover or load and anchor it so there is gentle, even tension.

Check the cord regularly and replace it if the jacket is frayed or the cord has lost its stretch.

Important notes
Shock cord is intended for light-duty securing and is not a rated tie-down, lifting or safety line. A stretched cord can snap back suddenly if it slips or a knot lets go, so keep your face and eyes clear when stretching and releasing it. Do not over-stretch the cord, and avoid sharp edges that can cut the jacket.

Specifications

Brand

Grunt

Product

Shock Cord

Size

4mm diameter x 5m length

Colour

Black

Material

Latex / rubber core

Construction

Braided jacket

Resistance

UV, oil, petrol, rot, mildew and weathering

Recommended use

Bungee cords, tarpaulins, trailer, boat and caravan covers

Use

Indoor and outdoor

Care and storage
Rinse off salt, dirt or grime with fresh water and let the cord dry before storing.
