Sikaflex®-221 is a multi-purpose 1-component polyurethane adhesive / sealant that bonds well to a wide variety of substrates like metals, metal primers and paint coatings (2-component systems), ceramic materials and plastics. It is suitable for making permanent elastic seals.

Usage
Sikaflex®-221 bonds well to a wide variety of substrates and is suitable for making permanent elastic seals . Suitable substrate materials are metals, metal primers and paint coatings (2-component systems), ceramic materials and plastics. It is ideally used for internal sealing and simple bonding applications. Seek manufacturer’s advice and perform tests on original substrates before using Sikaflex®-221 on materials prone to stress cracking. This product is suitable for experienced professional users only. Test with actual substrates and conditions have to be performed to ensure adhesion and material compatibility.
Surface preparation
Surfaces must be clean, dry and free from grease, oil and dust.
Surface treatment depends on the specific nature of the substrates and is crucial for a long lasting bond. Suggestions for surface preparation may be found on the current edition of the appropriate Sika® Pre-Treatment Chart. Consider that these suggestions are based on experience and have in any case to be verified by tests on original substrates.
Application
Sikaflex®-221 can be processed between 5 °C and 40 °C but changes in reactivity and application properties have to be considered. The optimum temperature for substrate and sealant is between 15 °C and 25 °C.
Sikaflex®-221 can be processed with hand, pneumatic or electric driven piston guns as well as pump equipment. For advice on selecting and setting up a suitable pump system, contact the System Engineering Department of Sika Industry.
Tooling and finishing
Tooling and finishing must be carried out within the skin time of the sealant. It is recommended using Sika® Tooling Agent N. Other finishing agents must be tested for suitability and compatibility prior the use.
Removal
Uncured Sikaflex®-221 can be removed from tools and equipment with Sika® Remover-208 or another suitable solvent. Once cured, the material can only be removed mechanically. Hands and exposed skin have to be washed immediately using hand wipes such as Sika® Cleaner-350H or a suitable industrial hand cleaner and water. Do not use solvents on skin.
Overpainting
Sikaflex®-221 can be painted after formation of a skin. If the paint requires a baking process, best performance is achieved by allowing the sealant to fully cure first. 1C-PUR and 2C-acrylic based paints are usually suitable. All paints have to be tested by carrying preliminary trials under manufacturing conditions. The elasticity of paints is usually lower than of sealants what could lead to cracking of the paint film in the joint area.

How To Use
Ensure surfaces are clean, dry and free of loose material.
Using the flexible spatula provided on the lid, press the filler firmly into the crack or hole and smooth off surface; there is no need to overfill.
Lightly sand back any excess filler from the surface after product dries (30 minutes in thin applications).
Dust off any loose dust before painting with water-based paints. For oil-based paints allow 24 hours before painting.
Limitations:
Not recommended for use on plastic, metal or exterior timber likely to swell/shrink on absorption of water.
Product is not flexible so not suitable for use between surfaces that are subject the structural movement - use Selleys No More Gaps
Not recommended for use where load or compression occurs as product may be crushed e.g. behind a door if the knob touches against the wall.
Nailing this product is not recommended.
Avoid using below 5°C or in wet conditions.

How to Use:
The surface to be filled must be clean, dry and free from dust.
Cut seal and nozzle to suit the width of the gap. Fit to the cartridge. Insert into a caulking gun such as Selleys Light Speed Caulking gun.
Apply with a caulking gun, forcing product into the gap.
Press in and smooth off with a spatula. Take care not to drag out applied filler from the gap. Use a spatula to scrape off as much residue as possible from the timber surface, to minimise sanding necessary.
Clean up with a damp cloth immediately.
Allow drying for at least 24 hours before sanding off any residue from the timber surface. Allow longer time in colder weather or if residue left on timber is excessive.
Stain and varnish/paint as desired. Ensure stain/varnish is not allowed to pool in the joint – lightly wipe off while wet if necessary.
Limitations:
Not for exterior use.
Not for gaps greater than 3mm wide in trafficable joints.
Tips:
Ensure sufficient product is applied into the gap if filling tongue and groove overlaps

How to Use:
The surface to be filled must be clean, dry and free from dust.
Cut seal and nozzle to suit the width of the gap. Fit to the cartridge. Insert into a caulking gun such as Selleys Light Speed Caulking gun.
Apply with a caulking gun, forcing product into the gap.
Press in and smooth off with a spatula. Take care not to drag out applied filler from the gap. Use a spatula to scrape off as much residue as possible from the timber surface, to minimise sanding necessary.
Clean up with a damp cloth immediately.
Allow drying for at least 24 hours before sanding off any residue from the timber surface. Allow longer time in colder weather or if residue left on timber is excessive.
Stain and varnish/paint as desired. Ensure stain/varnish is not allowed to pool in the joint – lightly wipe off while wet if necessary.
Limitations:
Not for exterior use.
Not for gaps greater than 3mm wide in trafficable joints.

How to use this product
Clean surface free of grease, dirt and dust. For best results roughen bond area prior to cleaning
Cut off required amount. Replace disc on remaining portion. Use gloves to avoid messing hands. To mix, knead with fingers to uniform colour. If mixing is difficult, warm to room temperature. Apply with pressure to surface to be repaired (within 2 minutes of mixing) and mould to shape if required. If material sticks to fingers, use the plastic wrapper to press the material in place.
For a smooth appearance, remove excess and hand rub with water or a damp cloth before hardening begins.
Trim away any excess before initial hardening. Remove any residues with acetone prior to initial hardening. Hardened excess may be sanded or trimmed away once fully cured.
After 5-10 minutes Knead-It Steel will harden and begin to form a strong bond.
After 60 minutes Knead-It Steel may be drilled, sanded, machined, filed, sawed or painted.
Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water after use.
Handy tips
Ensure the putty and hardener are mixed properly. Knead-It will become warm as it is mixed, A good indication its mixed properly is when you have a uniform colour, and feel a mild heat radiating from thre knead-it.
To help determine when your knead it has set, keep a small piece off to check- when it is hard, it indicates your job is done.
Store in a cool place for maximum shelf life
Use Knead-It Multi Purpous for applications in contact with drinking water.
Use Knead-It Aqua for applications in wet/submerged areas.
For cleaning surfaces prior to application of adhesive, if the surface is porous, we would recommend using SELLEYS Liquid Sugar Soap. If the surface is non-porous eg glass or metal, firstly clean the surface with mineral turpentine and then again with methylated spirits. If there is old, difficult to remove residue such as old paint, we recommend using paint stripper such as SELLEYS Kwik Strip Smart. Ensure the surface is dry before applying the product.
Keep a canister of SELLEYS Sugar Soap Wipes nearby for a quick and effective cleanup.

Where possible wear protective gloves when using Knead-It Steel. Contact with skin may result in irritation. Epoxy resin is a known skin sensitiser. Repeated or prolonged skin contact may lead to allergic contact dermatitis.
If redness or swelling of skin occurs, wash thoroughly with soap and water. Seek medical attention if in any doubt.
Mixed and cured material is not hazardous. Cured material can only be removed by cutting and abrasion. If cured on skin, it will peel off in a few days without assistance. Soaking in warm water will assist removal.

How to use this product
Clean surface free of grease, dirt and dust. For best results roughen bond area prior to cleaning.
Cut off required amount. Replace disc on the remaining portion. Wear gloves to avoid messing hands. To mix, knead with fingers to a uniform colour. If mixing is difficult, warm to room temperature.
Apply to surface to be repaired (within 12 minutes of mixing) and work the material forcefully into the surface applying pressure until adhesion begins to take effect. Mould to shape if required. If material sticks to fingers, use the plastic wrapper to press the material in place.
For a smooth appearance, remove excess and hand rub with water or damp cloth before hardening begins.
Trim away any excess before initial hardening. Remove any residues with acetone prior to initial hardening. Hardened excess may be sanded or trimmed away once fully cured.
After 20-30 minutes Knead-It Aqua will harden and begin to form a strong bond. Allow for longer cure times at lower temperatures.
After 60 minutes Knead-It Aqua may be drilled, sanded, machined, filed, sawed or painted.
Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water after use.

FX Super Base Coat X is used for fixing fibre cement sheets and Magnum Board joints.
Surface Preparation
All surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned and free of dirt, dust and grease. Substrates need to be constructed or installed to industry/Australian Standards.
Application:
Load FX Super Base Coat X onto hawke using a 150 mm – 200 mm broad knife/trowel and place in to the joint recess, working steadily from one end to the other of the joint recess, ensuring the Compound fills the joint recess and is evenly and smoothly applied. Next embed fibre-fuse tape into the Compound. Scrape off any excess Compound. Note, for added strength and confidence load FX Super Base Coat X in to the joint recess over the fibrefuse tape, working steadily from one end to the other of the joint recess, ensuring the Compound fills the joint recess and is evenly and smoothly applied. Ensure force is applied to properly embed Compound and fibre-fuse tape into the recess. Allow first coat of FX uper Base Coat X to dry for a minimum of 3–4 hours at 25 °C and 50% humidity. Apply a second coat of FX Super Base Coat X using the same method as the first coat. Ensure the compound is flush with the sheets. Scrape off any excess Compound. Allow to dry for 3–4 hours at 25 °C and 50% humidity before proceeding to product 2, FX Topping Compound X, or proceed straight to water-proofing system or texture-coating system.
Important Note: Clean tools frequently with water and a sponge to stop Compound drying on tools.

Q. I want a filler that matches the colour of the timber I am repairing. What should I use?
A. The best idea is to custom tint/stain a filler to match your timber, rather than buy a pre-tinted colour filler. This allows you the flexibility to adjust to the shade you require, rather than having the colour dictated by the manufacturer.
For interior timbers, use Polyfilla Timber Filler. If you require a wood filler that can be exposed to the elements, use Polyfilla Exterior Timber, which flexes with the natural movement of wood.
Note: When tinting /staining, the final colour is not achieved until a varnish is applied. It is worth testing first on an off-cut or inconspicuous area to see if the correct colour match is achieved.
