PC-Fahrenheit™ Putty Epoxy is the choice for temperatures up to 260° C. It is supplied as a premeasured stick that you mix with fingers. Fast curing (60 min). Best for steam heat applications. A toolbox must. Great on copper and iron. Here are just a few specific uses (there are hundreds of other uses): Seal cracked steam or hot water radiator Stop leaking steam fittings Fill hole in heat exchanger Attach thermocouple to hot surface Seal chimney ductwork How to prepare a surface for bonding with PC-Fahrenheit™ Remove contaminants such as dust, dirt, oil and grime with a solvent such as denatured alcohol (ethanol), acetone, rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) or lacquer thinner. A mild detergent solution in water is also good removing contaminants. Use a clean paper towel or rag for wiping. Remove rust and loose paint with sandpaper or wire brush. Smooth, glossy and shiny surfaces should be roughened using sandpaper to increase adhesion. Adhesion to wet or damp surfaces can be improved by wiping with alcohol. Do not use mineral spirits or paint thinner for removing contaminants. How to clean-up after PC-Fahrenheit™ application We recommend wearing disposable gloves when mixing and applying epoxy putty. Remove from skin with soap and warm water. Clean up mixed epoxy before it cures with paper towels and solvent. Denatured alcohol (ethanol), acetone, rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) or lacquer thinner are suitable solvents for removing uncured epoxy. Cured epoxy can be physically removed by prying off with a screwdriver or pliers. It can also be removed with paint stripper or remover. Can PC-Fahrenheit™ repair a leaking steam radiator? Allow to dry completely before applying silicone. If there is old silicone that needs to be removed, we recommend using SELLEYS SILICONE REMOVER. This ingenious product makes removing old silicone easy. We also recommend sanding the surface back with a good quality sanding block, such as a ROTA COTA Sanding Block Medium/Course Grain, as the silicone will adhere more readily to a scratched-up surface. Ensure you tape both sides of the gap before applying the product. This ensures a neat finish and makes it easier to clean up. Cut the seal at the top of the cartridge and cut the nozzle at a 45° angle, to the size of the gap opening. Fit the nozzle to the top of the cartridge. Insert the cartridge into a caulking gun such as the SELLEYS LIGHT SPEED Caulking Gun. We recommend this caulking gun, as its new innovative pressure release design reduces the mess from run-on and stress on your hands, which is critical if you are doing a lot of sealing. Excess sealant must be cleaned up before it skins in 5-10 minutes. Wipe excess away with a cloth dampened in mineral turpentine or use a SELLEYS Hand Kleen Wipe. Remove tape before the sealant skins. Clean tools immediately with mineral turpentine. Avoid smearing on surrounding surfaces. The sealant will cure fully in 72 hours. At this point, any unwanted sealant can be removed by trimming with a sharp blade, but avoid undercutting the seal. Handy Tips Ensure you tape both sides of the gap before applying the product for a neat finish and easy cleanup. When first applying, extrude a small amount onto a piece of scrap material to ensure a smooth continuous flow of silicone sealant. Remove the tape before the silicone sealant skins. For a better finish, complete painting prior to using the sealant as it cannot be painted over. Use a spatula dipped in mineral turpentine or detergent and water to tool off the sealant for a better finish. Work in sections that can be completed before the sealant skins. Tooling off and tape removal must be completed before skinning occurs for a better finish. However, for optimum adhesion and critical, high performance applications, such as on multi-story buildings, highly stressed joints, extreme weather exposure or water immersion, the following priming and/or pretreatment procedures shall be followed: Non-porous substrates Aluminium, anodised aluminium, stainless steel, PVC, galvanised steel, powder coated metals or glazed tiles have to be cleaned and pre-treated using Sika® Aktivator-205, wiped on with a clean towel. Before sealing, allow a flash-off time of > 15 minutes (< 6 hours). Other metals, such as copper, brass and titanium-zinc, also have to be cleaned and pre-treated using Sika® Aktivator-205,wiped on with a clean towel. After the necessary flash-off time, use a brush to apply Sika® Primer-3 N and allow a further flash-off time of > 30minutes (< 8 hours) before sealing the joints. Porous substrates Concrete, aerated concrete and cement based renders, mortars and bricks shall be primed using Sika® Primer-3 N applied with a brush. Bonding After substrate preparation, apply Sikaflex® Crystal Clear in beads, strips or spots to the bonding surface in intervals of a few centimetres each. Use hand pressure only to set the element to be bonded into position. If necessary, use SikaTack® Panel Tape during the initial hours of curing. An incorrectly positioned element can easily be unfastened and repositioned during the first few minutes after application. Apply pressure again. (CQP 019-1) APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS SUBSTRATE PREPARATION The substrate must be clean, dry, sound and homogeneous, free from oils, grease, dust and loose or friable particles. Sikasil® Pool adheres without primers and/or activators. However, for optimum adhesion and critical, high performance applications, such as on multi-story buildings, highly stressed joints, extreme weather exposure or water immersion, the following priming and/or pretreatment procedures shall be followed: Non-porous substrates Aluminium, anodised aluminium, stainless steel, glass, galvanised steel, powder coated metals or glazed tiles have to be cleaned and pre-treated using Sika® Aktivator-205, wiped on with a clean towel. Before sealing, allow a flash-off time of > 15 minutes (< 6 hours). Other metals, such as copper, brass and titanium-zinc, must also be cleaned and pre-treated using Sika® Aktivator-205, wiped on with a clean towel. After the necessary flash-off time, use a brush to apply Sika® Primer-3 N and allow a further flash-off time of > 30 minutes (< 8 hours) before sealing the joints. PVC has to be cleaned and pre-treated using Sika® Primer-215 applied with a brush. Before sealing, allow a flash-off time of > 30 minutes (< 8 hours). Porous substrates Concrete, aerated concrete and cement based renders, mortars and bricks shall be primed using Sika® Primer-3 N applied with a brush. Before sealing, allow a flash-off time of > 30 minutes (< 8 hours). For more detailed advice and instructions please contact the local Sika Technical Services Department. Note: Primers are adhesion promoters. They are neither a substitute for the correct cleaning of a surface, nor do they improve the strength of the surface significantly. APPLICATION METHOD / TOOLS Sikasil® Pool is supplied ready to use. After the necessary substrate preparation, insert a suitable backing rod to the required depth and apply any primer if necessary. Insert a foil pack or cartridge into the sealant gun and extrude Sikasil® Pool into the joint making sure that it comes into full contact with the sides of the joint and avoids any air entrapment. Sikasil® Pool sealant must be firmly tooled against the joint sides to ensure adequate adhesion. It is recommended to use masking tape where exact joint lines or neat lines are required. Remove the tape within the skin time. Use a compatible tooling agent (e.g. Sika® Tooling Agent N) to smooth the joint surfaces. Do not use tooling products containing solvents. CLEANING OF EQUIPMENT Clean all tools and application equipment immediately after use with Sika® Remover-208. Once cured the residual material can only be removed mechanically. IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS ▪ Sikasil® Pool cannot be overpainted. Colour variations may occur due to exposure to chemicals, high temperatures and/or UV-radiation (especially with the colour shade white). However, a change in colour is purely of aesthetic nature and does not adversely influence the technical performance or durability of the product. ▪ The use of non-prescribed tooling agents must be tested prior to use in application to ensure they will not cause aesthetical changes (such as discolouration). ▪ Do not use Sikasil® Pool on bituminous substrates, natural rubber, EPDM rubber or on any building materials which might bleed oils, plasticizers or solvents that could attack the sealant. ▪ Do not use Sikasil® Pool for structural glazing or insulated glazing, and food contact applications. ▪ Do not use Sikasil® Pool for medical or pharmaceutical uses. ▪ Before using Sikasil® Pool on natural stone, please contact our Technical Service Department for advice. ▪ Recommendations for use in swimming pools / warm water whirlpools: Allow Sikasil® Pool to cure completely before the filling of the pool; minimum of 7 days (depending on the temperature, humidity and thickness of the sealant applied). ▪ The resistance of a sealant to chlorine is dependent on the pH value of the water and the amount of free chlorine. ▪ Sikasil® Pool can be used in swimming pools and warm water whirlpools in which a pH value between 6.5 and 7.6 is maintained, and the free chlorine remains less than 5 mg/l (5 ppm). ▪ To reduce the risk of fungal attack on Sikasil® Pool, the free available chlorine level shall not be ≤ 0.3 mg/l in swimming pools and ≤ 0.7 mg/l in warm water whirlpools. Continuous water circulation is required to avoid chlorine concentrations. ▪ If there is a very strong smell of chlorine, check the pH value accordingly. ▪ Do not use acid-based detergents as they increase the danger of fungal attack. ▪ When joints are reconstructed due to fungal attack, Sikasil® Pool must be removed completely.
