PC-Marine™ Epoxy Putty Stick is a specially formulated epoxy putty suitable for wet or underwater applications. Incredibly it has an extended open time (20 – 30 minutes) but cures hard within 60 minutes for a fast return to service and emergency repairs. It sticks great to metals, fibreglass, tile, wood and some plastics such as ABS and rigid PVC. Here are just a few specific uses (there are hundreds of other uses): Seal holes and waterproof fittings Shape and form missing corners or holes in ceramic or fibreglass fixtures Re-attach and secure loose hardware Fill cracks and dings in fibreglass Seal leaks in water tanks How to prepare a surface for bonding with PC-Marine™ Remove contaminants such as dust, dirt, oil and grime with a solvent such as denatured alcohol, acetone, rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) or lacquer thinner. A mild detergent solution in water is also good removing contaminants. Use a clean paper towel or rag for wiping. Do not use mineral spirits or paint thinner for removing contaminants. Remove rust and loose paint with sandpaper or wire brush. Epoxy typically sticks to most paints. If there is a concern of the paint’s adhesion then remove it with sandpaper or wire brush. Smooth, glossy and shiny surfaces should be roughened using sandpaper to increase adhesion. How to clean-up after PC-Marine™ application Wear disposable gloves to minimize contact with the skin. For best results roughen bond area prior to cleaning. Cut off required amount. Replace disc on the remaining portion. Wear gloves to avoid messing hands. To mix, knead with fingers to a uniform colour. If mixing is difficult, warm to room temperature. Apply to surface to be repaired (within 12 minutes of mixing) and work the material forcefully into the surface applying pressure until adhesion begins to take effect. Mould to shape if required. If material sticks to fingers, use the plastic wrapper to press the material in place. For a smooth appearance, remove excess and hand rub with water or damp cloth before hardening begins. Trim away any excess before initial hardening. Remove any residues with acetone prior to initial hardening. Hardened excess may be sanded or trimmed away once fully cured. After 20-30 minutes Knead-It Aqua will harden and begin to form a strong bond. Allow for longer cure times at lower temperatures. After 60 minutes Knead-It Aqua may be drilled, sanded, machined, filed, sawed or painted. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water after use. Handy tips Ensure the putty and hardener are mixed properly. Knead-It will become warm as it is mixed, A good indication its mixed properly is when you have a uniform colour and feel a mild heat radiating from the knead-it. To help determine when your knead it has set, keep a small piece off to check- when it is hard, it indicates your job is done. For best results, use Knead-It Multi-Purpose for applications in contact with drinking water. Mild detergent solution in water is also good removing contaminants. Use a clean paper towel or rag for wiping. Remove rust and loose paint with sandpaper or wire brush. Smooth, glossy and shiny surfaces should be roughened using sandpaper to increase adhesion. Adhesion to wet or damp surfaces can be improved by wiping with alcohol. Do not use mineral spirits or paint thinner for removing contaminants. How to clean-up after PC-Metal™ application We recommend wearing disposable gloves when mixing and applying epoxy putty. Remove from skin with soap and warm water. Clean up mixed epoxy before it cures with paper towels and solvent. Denatured alcohol (ethanol), acetone, rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) or lacquer thinner are suitable solvents for removing uncured epoxy. It is important to mix small portions for 45 to 60 seconds and immediately apply to the surface. Within 3 to 5 minutes PC-Metal™ cures very hard. In less than 60 minutes PC-Metal™ reaches its full hardness. What kind of metal is in PC-Metal™? Does PC-Metal™ rust? It is an alloy of iron and aluminium. It will not rust. It is formulated for non-pressure (Type N) applications only. The manufacturer states it conforms to AS/NZS 3879 and is approved to AS/NZS 4020 for use in contact with drinking water. It also carries Watermark and ISO 9001:2008 accreditation, is Australian made and comes with a 10 year manufacturer's warranty. It is not intended for pressure pipe systems.How to use it Cut the pipe square, remove burrs from the inside and outside edges, and dry fit the joint to check alignment. Wipe the spigot and socket clean and dry, then clean and prime both surfaces with Protek Priming Fluid. Priming is recommended before applying the cement. Brush an even coat of cement onto the spigot and inside the socket, push the joint together promptly and hold it briefly. Work on one joint at a time, wipe away excess cement and reseal the cap tightly after use. Follow the jointing method in AS/NZS 2032 and the manufacturer's instructions for set and cure times. Important notesType N cement is for non-pressure applications only. Use a Type P cement for pressure pipe. The retailer data lists this size for PVC pipe up to 100mm diameter. Protite Fibreglass Resin is a low styrene emission (LSE) polyester resin for repairing cracks, dents, holes and worn patches on boats, caravans, cars, trailers, gutters and more, supplied here in a 500g size. Mixed with catalyst hardener and used with fibreglass matting or cloth, it gives DIYers and tradies a strong, workable repair material with good adhesion and a consistent wet-out.About the formulaA polyester LSE resin designed for general repair work. Once catalysed it cures to a hard, sandable and paintable finish that resists shrinkage and UV exposure. The resin is a viscous liquid and contains styrene, so it has a strong aromatic odour while you work. It does not cure on its own: you need to add a catalyst hardener (sold separately). Protite also offers a repair kit that bundles the resin with catalyst, matting and application accessories.Where to use itIndoors: repairs to fibreglass, timber, metal and plastic items, models and workshop projects, provided you have good ventilation.Outdoors: caravans, boats, trailers, bikes and cars, plus downpipes, leaky gutters, metal roofs and rusted panels, as well as fibreglass surfboards, pools and tanks.Suitable materials include fibreglass, steel, iron, aluminium, timber, masonry, PVC and smooth polyester surfaces. Test an inconspicuous area first when working on other plastics.How to use itClean the damaged area and remove loose material, grease and dust. Sand the surface so the resin has a key to grip. Pour only the amount of resin you can use in one session into a clean mixing container, then stir in the catalyst hardener. The catalyst manufacturer's guide is 2.5 to 3ml per 100ml of resin on a cold day, or 1.5 to 2ml per 100ml on a hot day. Mix thoroughly with a flat stirring stick until the colour is even. Work the resin into the repair (with matting or cloth if needed) by dabbing or rolling it out slowly to avoid trapping air bubbles. Allow it to cure, then sand and paint as required. Weather, humidity, depth of resin and draughts all change the amount of catalyst you need.Important notesUncatalysed resin will not harden, and too little catalyst or a very thin application can leave the resin tacky or uncured. Too much catalyst makes it gel sooner than expected. The manufacturer indicates the mix starts to gel after about 30 minutes at 25°C, and heat or extra catalyst shortens this while cold or less catalyst lengthens it. Take care when using polyester resin over epoxy surfaces and check compatibility first. Cure times depend on temperature and the amount of catalyst used.
