Description
Rust-Oleum LeakSeal Flexible Rubber Coating Spray in white is a ready-to-spray rubberised coating for sealing leaks and cracks around the home, supplied here as a single 340g aerosol can. It lays down a firm but flexible, watertight layer that helps keep out water, air and moisture, and it also protects the coated surface from rust. It suits quick repairs on gutters, roofing, flashing and ductwork without mixing, brushing or special tools.
About the formula
A solvent-borne, hydrocarbon resin coating that sprays on and builds up to fill small gaps and cracks (the manufacturer lists gaps and cracks up to 6.35mm). It dries to a semi-smooth, firm finish that stays flexible and is designed not to sag or drip, so it holds its shape on sloped and vertical surfaces. Once cured it can be top-coated with latex or oil-based paints, which makes it easy to blend repairs into the surrounding colour scheme.
Where to use it
Indoors: sealing cracks and leaks in ductwork, pipework surrounds and other protected areas, with good ventilation while you spray.
Outdoors: patching gutters, flashing, metal roofing, downpipes, masonry and concrete surfaces that need a flexible waterproof barrier.
Suitable materials include metal, aluminium, galvanised metal, PVC, concrete, masonry, asphalt roofing materials, vinyl siding and fibreglass. Do a small test spray first if you are unsure about a surface.
How to use it
- Prepare the surface by washing it with a detergent and water solution, rinsing well and letting it dry fully. Lightly sand glossy surfaces and wipe off the dust. Mask off nearby areas to protect against overspray.
- Spray outdoors or in a well-ventilated space, ideally when the temperature is between 10 and 32 degrees Celsius and humidity is below 65%. Avoid very windy or dusty conditions, and allow more drying time in cooler weather.
- Shake the can vigorously for about one minute once the mixing ball starts to rattle, and shake it often while you work.
- Do a test spray on cardboard to get a feel for the spray pattern, then hold the can 20 to 45cm from the surface and spray in short, even strokes.
- Apply a light first coat, then a second heavier coat for full coverage. Moving the can closer builds a thicker film. Some foaming or bubbling at first is normal and settles as the coating dries.
- After use, turn the can upside down and press the nozzle until only clear propellant sprays out. If the valve clogs, remove the spray tip and rinse it in mineral turpentine. Never push an object into the valve opening.
- Clean wet or dry coating with mineral turpentine or xylene.
Important notes
Not recommended for rubber surfaces or for surfaces that sit in continuous water immersion. Under the manufacturer's data, touch dry is about 2 hours at 21 to 27 degrees Celsius and 50% humidity, further coats can go on after 15 to 30 minutes, and you should allow 24 hours for a full cure and before top-coating. Cooler or more humid conditions will slow drying. This is not a fire or high-heat resistant coating. Shelf life is listed as 5 years.

Safety
Keep away from heat, sparks, open flames and other ignition sources, and do not smoke. Do not spray onto a flame. Contents are under pressure, so do not pierce or burn the can, even when empty. Use only outdoors or in a well-ventilated area, and avoid breathing the spray, mist or vapour. Refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for full details.
