Icon Plastics PVC Solvent Welding Cement 180g [White]

Description

Icon Plastics PVC Solvent Welding Cement is a fast-setting white solvent cement made for joining PVC fittings and pipe, supplied here in a 180g size. It is designed to go with the Icon Plastics surface drainage and rainwater range, and the manufacturer also positions it for irrigation, plumbing, pool and spa work.

About the formula
A solvent-based PVC cement. It works by softening the surfaces of the PVC so the two parts fuse into one joint as the solvent leaves, rather than sticking them together with a separate glue layer. The listed solvents are methyl ethyl ketone and tetrahydrofuran. It is approved to AS/NZS 4020 for use with potable water.

Where to use it
Indoors: PVC plumbing fittings and pipework, and PVC pool and spa plumbing connections.
Outdoors: PVC irrigation lines, and Icon Plastics surface drainage and rainwater fittings.

Suitable for PVC pipe and fittings. It is not intended as a general-purpose glue for other plastics, timber or metal.

How to use it
Cut the pipe square and remove burrs. Make sure the pipe end and the fitting socket are clean, dry and free of dirt, oil and grease. Apply an even coat of cement to both surfaces, push the pipe fully into the fitting and hold it briefly so it does not push back out. Wipe away any excess. Close the container tightly straight after use so the solvent does not evaporate. Follow the directions on the pack for set and cure times before the joint is pressurised or put into service.

Important notes
Make sure the joint has fully set and cured before it is tested or put under water pressure. Work in a well-ventilated area and keep the product away from heat, sparks and flames. Check the pack for any limits on pipe sizes and pressure ratings. Pipe and fitting suitability should be confirmed against the relevant plumbing standard for your job.
