Description
CAgroup Byute Flash is a self-adhesive weatherproofing tape for sealing joints and seams, supplied here as a 100mm x 10m roll for temporary roof, gutter and flashing repairs. It pairs an aluminium foil face with a thick butyl rubber adhesive layer, so it sticks firmly to a wide range of clean, dry building surfaces and is easy to cut and shape on site.
About the formula
The tape has an aluminium foil backing coated with a thick, tacky butyl rubber adhesive. The manufacturer describes it as an all purpose weatherproof sealing tape that adheres permanently to clean, dry surfaces. It is intended as a temporary weather seal and repair solution. Please note that Byute Flash does not comply with AS/NZS 2904:1995 (damp-proof courses and flashings), so it should not be used where a compliant damp-proof course or flashing is required.
Where to use it
Indoors: sealing joints around doors and where building surfaces meet, and weather sealing seams in toolsheds and similar structures.
Outdoors: repairs to roofing, guttering, downpipes and water tank tops, sealing joints around skylights, and weather sealing seams on caravans, trucks and sheds.
Suitable surfaces include metals, PVC, brick, fibreglass, cement, glass and timber.
How to use it
Clean the surface thoroughly and make sure it is completely dry before you start. Cut the tape to length with a knife or scissors, then press it firmly onto the surface, smoothing it down and moulding it into place around corners and laps. Where strips meet, overlap them by at least 25mm.
Important notes
Designed for temporary weatherproofing and repairs, not as a replacement for a compliant damp-proof course or flashing. Bond strength depends on a clean, dry surface, so remove dust, grease and moisture first. Test on a small area if you are unsure about a particular surface.
