Description
Bostik Fill It Expanda Foam is a one-component, multipurpose polyurethane expanding foam for sealing, filling, bonding and insulating in a single step, supplied here in a 500ml aerosol can with a straw applicator. It expands to take up gaps and cavities of many sizes, then cures into an airtight, moisture-resistant seal that is designed not to shrink away from the surrounding surface.
About the formula
A moisture-curing polyurethane foam that is ozone safe and has a mostly closed-cell structure, so it insulates against both heat and cold. Once cured it can be cut, sanded, plastered or painted to a neat finish. The included straw applicator lets you place foam into tight or awkward spots and apply it at any angle. The foam is not UV stable, so cured foam left exposed to sunlight should be painted.
Where to use it
Indoors: filling gaps and cavities around window and door frames, insulating around pipes, cutting down draughts, dust and noise, and adding a sound-absorbing layer or acoustic baffle.
Outdoors: sealing openings in roof construction, filling larger holes and gaps in exterior walls, and helping to keep out insects and rodents (paint exposed cured foam).
Suitable materials include concrete, brick, stone, plaster, timber and metal, as well as many plastics such as EPS, XPS, rigid PU foam and uPVC. It is not suitable for polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polycarbonate (PC), PMMA, PTFE, soft plastics, neoprene or bituminous surfaces.
How to use it
Make sure surfaces are clean, dry and free of dust, grease and loose material. Apply within the temperature range given on the can (+5°C to +35°C). Fit the straw applicator, shake the can well as directed on the label, and fill gaps only part-way, because the foam expands as it cures. Follow the label and Safety Data Sheet for cleaning up uncured foam. Once cured, trim any excess by cutting or sanding, then paint, plaster or finish as required.
Important notes
Do not use where the foam will sit under a permanent water load, or in cavities that are too dry to supply the moisture needed for curing. The foam is moisture-curing, so cure time varies with temperature, humidity and the surface. Typical values at 20°C and 60% relative humidity are a skin time of about 8 to 12 minutes and a cure of around 1 hour for a 30mm bead. Uncured foam can stick firmly to skin and clothing, so keep it off both while working.

Safety
Use in a well-ventilated area, keep away from heat, sparks and open flames, and do not pierce or burn the can, even when empty. Wear gloves, eye protection and protective clothing, and avoid breathing vapour or aerosol. If skin or hair is contaminated, remove affected clothing and flush with running water. Store in a well-ventilated place away from heat and dispose of the can through an approved waste facility. Refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for full details.
