Protek Type N Clear PVC Solvent Cement 250ml for Non-Pressure Pipes

Description

Protek Type N Clear Solvent Cement is a PVC-U pipe cement made for non-pressure joints, supplied here in a 250ml container with a built-in brush cap. It is designed for plumbers, electricians and DIYers who are joining PVC pipe, fittings and sheet on drainage, sewerage, stormwater and conduit work.

About the formula
A clear, viscous, solvent-based cement that softens the PVC surfaces so the pipe and fitting fuse into one joint as the solvent evaporates. It is formulated for non-pressure (Type N) applications only. The manufacturer states it conforms to AS/NZS 3879 and is approved to AS/NZS 4020 for use in contact with drinking water. It also carries Watermark and ISO 9001:2008 accreditation, is Australian made and comes with a 10 year manufacturer's warranty. The container cap carries a natural bristle brush, so there is no separate applicator to buy.

Where to use it
Indoors: waste and drainage pipework, electrical conduit and PVC sheet jointing in residential, commercial and industrial buildings.
Outdoors: sewerage, drainage and stormwater lines in non-pressure PVC-U pipe up to 100mm diameter.

Suitable material: PVC-U pipe, fittings and sheet. It is not intended for pressure pipe systems.

How to use it

  • Cut the pipe square, remove burrs from the inside and outside edges, and dry fit the joint to check alignment.
  • Wipe the spigot and socket clean and dry, then clean and prime both surfaces with Protek Priming Fluid. Priming is recommended before applying the cement.
  • Brush an even coat of cement onto the spigot and inside the socket, push the joint together promptly and hold it briefly.
  • Work on one joint at a time, wipe away excess cement and reseal the cap tightly after use.
  • Follow the jointing method in AS/NZS 2032 and the manufacturer's instructions for set and cure times.

Important notes
Type N cement is for non-pressure applications only. Use a Type P cement for pressure pipe. The retailer data lists this size for PVC pipe up to 100mm diameter. Use in a well-ventilated area, because the vapour is strong and the cement is highly flammable. Do not use it on other plastics.
