Sika MultiSeal BT High Tack Butyl Sealing Tape 10m x 100mm (Grey)

Description

Sika MultiSeal BT is a self-adhesive butyl sealing tape with an aluminium top surface, supplied here as a 10 m x 100 mm roll in grey for sealing and repairing roofs, gutters, flashings and other building elements. The high tack butyl adhesive grips a wide range of building materials, indoors and outdoors, so you can seal a joint or patch a leak without mixing, gunning or waiting for anything to cure.

About the formula
The tape is built on a flexible butyl rubber compound with a reinforced aluminium film on top. The aluminium face gives the tape its UV resistance. The butyl layer underneath is self-adhesive and is protected by a release liner until you are ready to stick it down. Sika describes it as having good adhesion at low temperatures, very good weather and UV resistance, and very good heat stability with no flow or oil migration. The aluminium face can be overpainted with most conventional paint systems, but test the paint first to confirm compatibility.

Where to use it
Indoors: sealing and insulating ductwork for ventilation and air conditioning, dampening and insulation work, and sealing joints on modular buildings and office containers.
Outdoors: repairing and sealing sheet metal roofs and flashings, facade elements, concrete roof tiles, metal and PVC gutters and downpipes, chimneys and skylights, and caravans and containers.

Suitable materials include metal sheeting, glass, timber, PVC and concrete, along with most other common building materials. Check the compatibility of the butyl adhesive with the surface first, particularly on plastics and painted surfaces.

How to use it
Surfaces must be sound, clean and dry. Sika recommends cleaning and pre-treating the substrate with Sika Aktivator-205 applied with a clean towel. Cut the tape to length, peel back the release liner and press the tape firmly onto the surface, working along its full length so it makes good contact. Follow the current Sika product data sheet for application temperature limits, joint overlaps and any other installation details.

Important notes
This tape is not for use on natural stone. It is not a replacement for an adhesive or mechanical fixing, so do not use it for permanent fixing or in load-bearing applications. On porous surfaces, water can travel in underneath the tape. Test paint compatibility before overpainting.
