Protek Type P Green PVC Solvent Cement 250ml (For Pressure Pipes)

Description

Protek Type P Green PVC Solvent Cement is a pressure-rated pipe cement for joining PVC-U pipe and fittings, supplied here in a 250ml container with a brush built into the cap. It suits plumbers, irrigators and serious DIYers who need a solvent-weld joint that is approved for use with drinking water and built for pressurised lines.

About the formula
A resin-based solvent cement that softens the surfaces of PVC-U so the pipe and socket fuse into a single joint as the solvents evaporate. Type P sets more slowly than Protek Type N, which gives you a little more working time to seat the joint on pressure fittings. It is made in Australia and conforms to AS/NZS 3879. It is also approved to AS/NZS 4020 for contact with drinking water, and the range is Watermark and ISO 9001 accredited. The manufacturer backs it with a 10 year warranty. This is not a low-VOC formula.

Where to use it
Indoors: pressure plumbing runs and pressurised fluid lines in residential, commercial and industrial buildings, plus pipework for spas.
Outdoors: irrigation and reticulation, agricultural water lines and swimming pool plumbing.

Designed for PVC-U pressure pipe and fittings. It is not intended for other plastics, so do not use it to glue anything other than PVC-U pipe systems.

How to use it
Cut the pipe square, remove burrs and wipe the spigot and socket clean and dry. Prime both surfaces with a suitable PVC priming fluid, as recommended for solvent-weld jointing. While the surfaces are still wet from priming, brush a thin, even coat of cement onto the spigot and a lighter coat inside the socket. Push the joint home straight away with a slight twist, hold it briefly so it does not push back out, and wipe off any excess. Follow the jointing procedure in AS/NZS 2032 for waterproof, pressure-rated joints. Keep the lid on tight between uses.

Important notes
Do not thin the cement or mix anything into it. Do not use it on non-PVC-U materials. Work in a well-ventilated area and keep it away from heat and ignition sources. Allow the joint to cure fully before pressure testing or putting the line into service, and check the manufacturer data sheet for cure times that suit your pipe size and conditions. Discard cement that has thickened or gone stringy.
