Description
Rust-Oleum LeakSeal Clear is a rubberised spray-on sealant that stops leaks and seals cracks in one easy aerosol, supplied here as a single 312g can. It lays down a flexible, water-tight coating over gutters, roofing, flashings, ducting and more, and the clear finish lets the original surface show through. It suits homeowners and maintenance tradies who need a quick, no-fuss repair.
About the formula
A solvent-based, rubberised coating built on a hydrocarbon resin, delivered by a flammable propellant. It sprays on as a firm but flexible film that fills small gaps, cracks and holes (the manufacturer rates it for gaps up to about 6mm) and forms a barrier against water, air and moisture. It dries to a semi-smooth finish that does not sag or drip, helps protect the surface from rust, and can be topcoated with latex or oil-based paint once cured.
Where to use it
Indoors: ductwork, vents, pipes and other surfaces that need a flexible moisture seal.
Outdoors: gutters, downpipes, roof flashings, metal roofing, sheds, vents and cracked masonry or concrete.
Suitable materials include metal, aluminium, galvanised metal, PVC, concrete, masonry, asphalt roofing materials, vinyl siding and fibreglass. Test a small hidden area first on any surface you are unsure about.
How to use it
Remove all dirt and debris from the repair area. The manufacturer's technical data also advises washing with detergent and water, rinsing and letting the surface dry thoroughly, removing loose paint or old coatings, and lightly sanding glossy surfaces. Mask off surrounding areas to protect them from overspray.
Apply outdoors or in a well-ventilated space, ideally between 10 and 32°C with humidity below 65%. Avoid very windy or dusty conditions.
Shake the can vigorously for one minute after the mixing ball starts to rattle, and shake often during use. Do a test spray on cardboard to get a feel for the pattern.
Hold the can about 20 to 45cm from the surface and spray in short, even strokes. Apply a light first coat, then a heavier second coat for full coverage. Moving closer to the surface builds a thicker film.
Once the coating has fully cured, it can be painted with latex or oil-based paint if you want it to match the surroundings.
Important notes
Dry to touch in about 30 minutes, with full cure in about 24 hours. Not recommended for rubber surfaces or for surfaces under continuous water immersion. It is not fire or high-heat resistant and is not rated as mould or mildew resistant. Coverage varies with surface porosity and how thick you apply it. Do not apply to hot surfaces.

Safety
Keep away from heat, sparks, open flames and other ignition sources, and do not smoke. Do not spray onto a flame. The can is pressurised: do not pierce or burn it, even when empty, and do not expose it to temperatures above 50°C. Use outdoors or with good cross-ventilation.
