Description
Protek Red PVC Priming Fluid is the cleaning and priming step that comes before solvent cementing PVC pipe and fittings, supplied here in a 250ml container for plumbing, irrigation and general pipework jobs. It removes dirt and grease from the jointing surfaces so that Protek Type N or Type P cement can bond properly. It dries quickly and leaves a pink stain, so you can see which areas have been primed.
About the formula
A solvent-based priming fluid made to clean and prepare PVC pipe and fittings (listed by the manufacturer for PVC-U). The red dye shows where the primer has been applied. It is Australian made and conforms to AS/NZS 3879. It is also approved to AS/NZS 4020 for use in contact with drinking water, and is Watermark and ISO 9001:2008 accredited. The supplier lists a 10 year manufacturer warranty.
Where to use it
Indoors: pipework and fittings in residential and commercial plumbing, where Protek Type N or Type P cements are used.
Outdoors: irrigation, agricultural, industrial and mining pipework that is solvent cemented with Protek Type N or Type P cements.
Suitable for PVC pipes and fittings that are being joined with Protek Type N (non-pressure) or Type P (pressure) solvent cements.
How to use it
Cut the pipe square and remove any burrs. Mark the full socket depth on the pipe and test the joint with a dry fit. Wipe the pipe end and the inside of the socket with a clean cloth freshly moistened with the priming fluid. This step is essential for a good bond. Then apply the matching Protek solvent cement as directed on its pack. Refer to AS 2032 for complete PVC pipe jointing instructions. Keep the lid tightly closed when not in use, because evaporating solvent will reduce the product's performance.
Important notes
This is a primer and cleaner only. It does not replace the solvent cement, and it should not be mixed with the cement. Use Type N cement for non-pressure joints and Type P cement for pressure joints. Pipe jointing is a trade skill, so follow the relevant standards. The red dye can stain surfaces permanently, so avoid spills. Do not use it on surfaces other than PVC pipe jointing surfaces.
