Cork Rubber Felt Canvas Leather Metals Timber Laminated plastics (laminex, formica) Hardboard Compressed board How to use this product: When bonding laminated plastics, ensure that surfaces to be bonded are clean, dry and free from grease or paint. Surfaces to be bonded should be relatively smooth and/or close fitting. Both surfaces should be completely covered with adhesive and kept apart till “touch dry” – no more than 40 minutes. Position the items carefully, still keeping surfaces apart. Remember once joined they cannot be repositioned. When edges are perfectly aligned, press surfaces firmly together. Secure bond by running a roller over the bonded surfaces or else by hammering the surface from the centre outwards using a padded block. For bonding other materials, apply as for laminated plastics above. When small surface areas are to be joined a wet bond may be used. Simply apply Kwik Grip Solvent to one surface then bring the surfaces together and clamp until dry. Handy tips: -Care should be taken to test plastics prior to use as solvents present will attack some polystyrene and sheet vinyls. -Up to 5sq.m/litre (bonded area 2.5sq.m/litre) depending on the porosity of surfaces. -For vertical surfaces, we recommend using SELLEYS Kwik Grip Gel Vertical. -For applications in confined or low ventilation areas eg car interior, we recommend using SELLEYS Kwik Grip Waterbased, as it is non-toxic and free of fumes. -Use a brush, knife or serrated scraper for application. -When using the contact method REMEMBER bonding is immediate once the two surfaces are joined. -Keep container sealed when not in use. -For cleaning surfaces prior to application of adhesive, if the surface is porous, we would recommend using SELLEYS Liquid Sugar Soap. If the surface is non-porous eg glass or metal, firstly clean the surface with mineral turpentine and then again with methylated spirits. If there is old, difficult to remove residue such as old paint, we recommend using paint stripper such as SELLEYS Kwik Strip Smart. Ensure the surface is dry before applying the product. -While wet, adhesive can be removed using mineral turps. Cured adhesive is very difficult to remove. Tools and other equipment on which Kwik Grip Horizontal has dried may be cleaned by soaking in Toluol or lacquer thinner. Excess adhesive on the face of the jointed materials may also be removed with solvent, but care should be taken that the materials themselves are not damaged by the solvent. -Keep a canister of SELLEYS Sugar Soap Wipes nearby for a quick and effective cleanup. Safety tips: -Ensure thorough ventilation when using. Avoid using in a confined space for prolonged periods. We recommend you use Kwik Grip Waterbased in these circumstances. -Highly flammable. Bostik Soft Plastics Adhesive is a strong water-resistant polyurethane-based adhesive, designed for long-lasting repairs of objects made from common soft and flexible plastics. It is quick-drying leaving a clear and almost invisible glue line. Ideal for repair of inflatable swimming pool toys. APPLICATIONS Repair of inflatable toys, plastic raincoats, lilos and vinyl swimming pools. Also suitable as a general-purpose glue for DIY repairs around the house and for arts and craft. ADHESION Adheres to rigid and soft (plasticized) PVC, ABS, Perspex, Polystyrene (solid), Formica polyurethane, and fibreglass. Also bonds a variety of other materials such as metal, glass, porcelain, ceramic, leather, most rubbers, felt, cork, fabric, cardboard, paper, coated and uncoated wood. SURFACE PREPARATION Surfaces must be clean, dry and free from all loose materials, dust, dirt, oil, rust and any other contaminants. For improved adhesion, surfaces should be lightly abraded and then wiped with a solvent such as acetone. Poor surface preparation may result in a weak bond and delamination of the substrates along the glue line. HOW TO USE 1. Ensure that surfaces are prepared as above. Wet stick method: 2. Spread an even film of adhesive onto both surfaces. If required, use the PVC patch provided. 3. Leave the surfaces open for approximately 5 minutes, until almost dry. 4. Bring surfaces together firmly until bonded. If necessary, hold together with a clamp or tape. 5. Full strength develops after 24 hours. Dry stick method: 6. This application method achieves the strongest and fastest bond. It is ideal for heavy-duty repairs or when initial high bond strength is required. 7. Spread an even film of adhesive onto both surfaces. Allow drying completely. 8. Re-activate the glue by applying a suitable heat source over the surfaces, e.g. a hairdryer. 9. Once the surfaces are very hot, bring together and press firmly to ensure good contact for about 2 minutes. 10. Depending on the application, the object may be handled immediately. 11. Full strength develops after 24 hours. CLEANING - Wet adhesive can be cleaned with acetone. - Dried adhesive can be removed mechanically or with acetone. If using acetone, check for substrate compatibility prior to use. As a one way wet stick: Usually, this technique is employed when either one or both of substrates to be bonded are porous (e.g. fabrics, cardboard). Clean Up Any wet or partially wet adhesive can be removed with scraping and Bostik Solvent 9901. The dried adhesive is best removed with a scraper or by sanding.
