Description
CAgroup Consolidated Alloys Butyl Double Sided Tape is a black, double sided butyl rubber tape for joining, sealing and waterproofing, supplied here as a single 48mm x 15m roll. The soft butyl adhesive moulds into rough and textured surfaces, so it suits builders, roofers and trades who need to seal overlaps and fix lightweight items where a smooth, hard-edged tape would struggle.
About the formula
The tape uses a highly water-resistant butyl rubber adhesive coated onto a polyethylene net. The net carrier gives the tape dimensional stability so it holds its shape in the roll and during handling. A siliconised kraft paper release liner protects the adhesive until you are ready to use it. Because the adhesive is soft and conformable, it follows uneven surfaces and also helps absorb vibration.
Where to use it
Construction and civil work: fixing and sealing joints for waterproofing, and joining and sealing membranes.
Ventilation and insulation: holding and sealing sisalation, as used in the HVAC industry.
Signage and audio: mounting lightweight signage to textured surfaces, and isolating vibration in audio parts.
The manufacturer data does not provide a full list of compatible surfaces, so test the tape on a small area of your own substrate before committing to a large job, especially on low energy plastics, oily or powdery surfaces.
How to use it
Make sure the surfaces are clean, dry and free of dust, oil and grease. Cut the tape to length, peel back the release liner progressively and press the tape firmly into place so the adhesive makes full contact with the surface. Bring the second surface or membrane into position and apply firm, even pressure along the whole joint to help the soft adhesive conform to the texture.
Important notes
This is a lightweight mounting and sealing tape, so it is not intended for heavy structural loads. The manufacturer has not published set times or temperature limits for this size, so none are listed here. Check the supplier's technical data sheet if your application is critical, such as exposure to extreme heat or constant heavy movement. Store the roll with the liner in place until needed.
