Description
Plaid Mod Podge Dishwasher Safe Gloss is a water-based decoupage glue, sealer and finish in one, made for kitchen-style craft projects that need to cope with the occasional top-rack wash. It brushes on clear and dries to a hard, glossy surface, so you can stick down paper napkins or decorative paper and seal them in a single product. This 236ml (8 fl oz) size suits mugs, glasses, plates and similar keepsakes.
About the formula
A water-based, quick-drying formula that goes on clear and leaves a smooth, glossy finish. Once it has fully cured, the coating is designed to stand up to gentle top-rack dishwasher washing. It is a craft medium rather than a structural adhesive, and the manufacturer describes the cured film as water-resistant, not waterproof. Standing water left on the surface for long periods can cause clouding. The product is described as non-toxic.
Where to use it
Indoors: decoupage on coffee mugs, wine glasses, tumblers, plates and other glass, ceramic or metal items that will be washed on the top rack, plus general paper and wood craft work.
Outdoors: not specifically recommended for this formula. Decorative kitchenware projects are the intended use.
Suitable materials include glass, ceramic, metal, wood and paper. It grips porous surfaces best. Smooth or non-porous plastics may need preparation, so test a small area first.
How to use it
Wipe the surface clean with alcohol so it is free of oil and dust. Brush on two to three thin coats, allowing each coat to dry before the next. Fix your paper or decoration in place with the first coat, then seal over the top. Hand wash the finished piece only while it cures. Wash tools while the product is still wet, using soap and water.
Important notes
Allow a full 28 day cure before the first dishwasher wash, and use the top rack only. Washing early can damage the finish. Items are for decorative use. Direct food or mouth contact is not confirmed by the manufacturer, so keep decoration on the outside of drinkware and away from eating surfaces. Keep the lid closed when not in use and store the product away from freezing conditions.
