Description
Ramset Safe-T-Bond is a water-cleanable construction adhesive built for fixing wall panelling, flooring, skirting boards and architraves, supplied here as a 1L resealable sachet that needs no caulking gun. It grabs quickly so boards and panels stay put on vertical work, yet it still leaves you time to adjust the position before it sets.
About the formula
A solvent-free, low odour adhesive that produces no solvent fumes. The manufacturer reports a VOC content of 0 g/L, and the product will not attack expanded polystyrene foam. It bridges gaps of up to 9mm, which helps on uneven framing and sub-floors. Its bond strength exceeds the requirements of Australian Standard AS 2329-1999. Open time is 20 minutes at 25°C, repositioning time is up to 60 minutes at 25°C, and the adhesive reaches full cure in 24 hours at 25°C. Service temperature range is -5°C to 80°C.
Where to use it
Indoors: particleboard sub-floor sheets to timber, steel and concrete joists, plus wall panelling, skirting boards and architraves.
Outdoors: the manufacturer does not give outdoor exposure guidance for this product, so check with Ramset before using it in exposed locations.
Suitable materials listed by the manufacturer include particleboard and chipboard, MDF, fibre cement sheet, softwoods, hardboard, plywood, hardwoods with a dry density below 1000 kg/m3, concrete, expanded polystyrene foam and galvanised steel.
How to use it
Work between 5°C and 35°C. Make sure the surfaces are clean, dry and free of dust, oil and loose material. Squeeze the adhesive from the sachet onto the surface, position the board or panel within the 20 minute open time, and adjust it if needed within the repositioning window. Wipe up wet adhesive with water, and reseal the sachet after use. Cured adhesive will need to be removed mechanically.
Important notes
Not intended for fixing timber floors on top of a particleboard sub-floor or a concrete slab. Allow 24 hours at 25°C for full cure, and expect longer in cooler conditions. Always test a small area first if you are unsure about a particular substrate, and follow the manufacturer's technical data sheet for your application.
