Description
Soudal Genius Gun Gap Filling Expanding Foam is a one-handed, ready-to-use polyurethane foam for filling gaps, holes and joints while adding thermal and acoustic insulation, supplied here as a single 500ml can. The applicator trigger is built into the can, so there is no need to buy a separate foam gun, and the can can be put away part-used and picked up again on the next job.
About the formula
A one-component, moisture-curing polyurethane foam with a stable, thixotropic body that stays where you put it. A built-in trigger and straw let you control the amount you dispense, and the resealable applicator keeps the can usable for up to 6 weeks after first use. Once cured it is light, sound-reducing and chemically inert, with minimal shrinkage and very little post-expansion. Manufacturer data lists a free-foamed density of about 25 kg/m³, sound insulation of 58 dB and thermal conductivity of 0.037 W/m.K. One 500ml can yields roughly 19 litres of free foam, or about 17 metres of joint fill. The foam is champagne in colour and is not UV resistant, so exposed foam needs a protective finish.
Where to use it
Indoors: filling gaps around door and window frames, sealing pipe and cable penetrations, closing holes and cavities in walls and ceilings, cutting down draughts and thermal bridges, and adding a sound-deadening layer.
Outdoors: sealing gaps and openings in roof constructions and around frames and penetrations. Cover the cured foam with paint, plaster or sealant to protect it from UV light.
Suitable materials include brick, concrete, masonry, timber, metals and most plastics, as well as most other common building materials. It does not bond to polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP) or PTFE. Run a quick adhesion test on unusual substrates first.
How to use it
- Make sure surfaces are clean, dry and free of dust and grease, then lightly mist them with water to help the foam cure.
- Shake the can hard for at least 20 seconds, then open the cover and fold the tube out horizontally.
- Turn the can over and squeeze the trigger to dispense. Fill holes and cavities only about one third full, as the foam expands a lot as it cures.
- Shake the can again every so often while you work. For deep voids, build up in layers and moisten between each layer.
- When you finish, detach the bung, plug the nozzle with it, close the cap and store the can upright.
- Once fully cured, trim the foam with a sharp knife, then sand, paint, plaster or cover with sealant as needed.
Important notes
Wipe off uncured foam straight away with Soudal Gun and Foam Cleaner or acetone, and test the cleaner on plastics, lacquer and paint first as they can be affected. Cured foam can only be removed mechanically or with a PU foam remover, and it must never be burned off. Use the product between roughly +5°C and +30°C. Skin forms in about 7 minutes and the foam can be cut after about 25 minutes (manufacturer figures, measured under standard test conditions, so real-world times vary with temperature, humidity and bead size). Cured foam is not UV resistant. Do not use it near electrical boxes or light fittings without checking the clearance guidance. Unopened cans keep for at least 12 months when stored upright in a cool, dry place at +5°C to +25°C.

Safety
This is a pressurised aerosol with flammable propellant and contains isocyanates. Keep it away from heat, sparks, flames and other ignition sources, do not smoke while using it, and never pierce or burn the can, even when empty. Wear gloves, safety glasses and protective clothing, and use only in well-ventilated areas. People already sensitised to isocyanates, or with asthma, eczema or skin problems, should avoid contact with the product. Refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for full details.
