Alternatively, low clamping pressures (50lbs/in2) can be used with softwoods; higher pressures are recommended for hardwoods (100 – 150lbs/in2). Do not stress joint for 12 hours. Wipe off excess adhesive while still wet with a damp cloth. If the wood is to be stained, any residual Aquadhere left on the timber surface may prevent the stain from taking to the wood. Maximum strength is achieved after 12 hours, but longer in cold, damp conditions, or when used on dense timbers. Cure slows significantly in humid, cold conditions. Clean all tools with water before adhesive is allowed to dry. If dry, soak in water until adhesive is soft. Handy tips 1L covers approx. 8m2 To fill small gaps, Aquadhere can be mixed with sawdust. Sanding isn’t an effective way to prepare for gluing, as it often leaves an uneven surface and may clog the timber which can stop the glue from penetrating and impact on your result. A straight router can be used to trim the edge, but be sure to only remove as much as required to obtain a suitable edge for gluing. If you are gluing over a larger surface, try using a small roller to aid in application. For cleaning surfaces prior to application of adhesive, if the surface is porous, we would recommend using SELLEYS Liquid Sugar Soap. If the surface is non-porous eg glass or metal, firstly clean the surface with mineral turpentine and then again with methylated spirits. If there is old, difficult to remove residue such as old paint, we recommend using paint stripper such as SELLEYS Kwik Strip Smart. Ensure the surface is dry before applying the product. An incorrectly positioned element can easily be unfastened and repositioned during the first few minutes after application. Apply pressure again. Optimum bonding will be obtained after the complete curing of Sikaflex® Crystal Clear. The recommended adhesive layer thickness (depending on surface evenness) is ≤3 mm. Fresh, uncured adhesive remaining on the surface must be removed immediately. Final strength will be obtained after complete curing of Sikaflex® Crystal Clear. Sealing After the necessary substrate preparation, insert a suitable backing rod to the required depth and apply any primer if necessary. Insert a cartridge into the sealant gun and extrude Sikaflex® Crystal Clear into the joint making sure that it comes into full contact with the sides of the joint and avoids any air entrapment. Sikaflex® Crystal Clear sealant must be firmly tooled against the joint sides to ensure adequate adhesion. It is recommended to use masking tape where exact joint lines or neat lines are required. Remove the tape within the skin time. Do not use tooling products containing solvents. In very cold weather, cartridge may need to be conditioned to room temperature for easier gunning. Direct a bead along the length of the joist, stud or batten. On broad flat surfaces apply beads every 40cm. (“zig-zag” beads are more appropriate on surfaces of moderate width) Fix with sufficient nails, screws or clamping to hold load and achieve contact over the total bond area. Wet bonds are re-positionable for up to 20 mins after fitting Allow adhesives to set (at least 24 – 48 hours) before removing any temporary fasteners or clamping. (refer to Bond strength Time) For faster grab, apply to one surface only, press together and pull apart. Allow surfaces to dry 2-3 minutes before firmly Technical Details and Performance Time for strong bond depends on nature and condition of application. A minimum of 24 to 48 hours is needed for sufficient strength to develop. The bond will continue to strengthen over time. Full cure up to 14 days. Curing is achieved by evaporation of solvent. Hold the caulking gun at a 45° angle. For a smooth finish, smooth with a finger dipped in mineral turpetine or for a professional finish use a paint scraper such as a 50mm ROTA COTA Soft Grip Scraper dipped in mineral turpetine. Excess sealant must be cleaned up before the sealant skins in 5-10 minutes. Wipe excess away with a cloth dampened in mineral turpetine or use a SELLEYS Hand Kleen Wipe. Remove tape before the sealant skins. Clean tools immediately in mineral turpetine. Avoid smearing on surrounding surfaces, see handy tip. Sealant will cure fully in 72 hours. As this point, any unwanted sealant can be removed by trimming with a sharp blade but avoid undercutting the seal. For aquariums, allow the product to fully cure for 7 days. Contact SELLEYS if unsure. Handy tips Tips for Using a Silicone Sealant on Glass Ensure you tape both sides of the gap before applying the product. This ensures a neat finish and makes it easier to clean up. The depth of the sealant should be no more than 10mm in joints. To fill larger joints use a suitable backing rod (such as closed cell polyethylene foam or similar), leaving the gap depth no larger than half the width of the joint. When first applying product, extrude a small amount onto a piece of scrap material to ensure a smooth continuous flow of silicone sealant. Remove the tape before the silicone sealant skins. For a better finish complete painting prior to use of the sealant as it can not be painted over. For a better finish, use a spatula dipped in mineral turpetine or detergent and water to tool off the sealant. Work in sections that can be completed before sealant skins. Tooling off and tape removal must be completed before skinning occurs or a rough surface may result, so working in sections allows for a better finish. Keep a pack of SELLEYS Hand Kleen Wipes handy to wipe up any spills and for cleaning any material off the skin before it cures. They are an easy and effective way to keep clean on the job. Safety tips Uncured product may irritate eyes. If in eyes, flood the eyes for at least 15 minutes and seek medical advice. Avoid contact with skin, if contact occurs, wipe off immediately and wash with detergent. It may irritate sensitive skin. Avoid breathing in vapours. Ensure you use a well-ventilated area as product releases acetic acid while curing. For advice, contact a Poisons Information Centre (AUS 131 126; NZ 0800 764 766) or a doctor. Storage and re-use Store in cool dry conditions, below 30°C The sealant should be used within 6 months after opening. After use, keep the nozzle on the cartridge. Silicone is a reactive product and is designed to cure once exposed to humidity. While the product may be stored for a few months once opened, it does have a limited shelf life. Storage in an upright position in a cool dry place is recommended to maximise the storage life. If the sealant is going to be used again within a few days, leave the nozzle on and merely extrude approximately 2 cm of the product before storing the cartridge upright. This will cure to a plug which can easily be pulled out when required. For longer storage periods, leave the nozzle on and place a piece of plasticene or Blu Tack over the end of the nozzle. Tightly tape a piece of aluminium foil over the whole nozzle to exclude any air. When you want to re-use the product, simply take off the foil and plug from the old nozzle pull out the excess silicone from the nozzle with a corkscrew, then re-pierce any cure at the tip of the cartridge and re-use. If cure has taken place into the cartridge, the product is unlikely to be in a useable state and should be discarded.

Shake bottle before use Apply adhesive liberally to one surface only, position surfaces and press together while still wet. Immediately clamp for 30 minutes for softwoods and 1 hour for hardwoods. Alternatively, low clamping pressures (50lbs/in2) can be used with softwoods; higher pressures are recommended for hardwoods (100 – 150lbs/in2). Do not stress joint for 12 hours. Wipe off excess adhesive while still wet with a damp cloth. If the wood is to be stained, any residual Aquadhere left on the timber surface may prevent the stain from taking to the wood. Maximum strength is achieved after 12 hours, but longer in cold, damp conditions, or when used on dense timbers. Cure slows significantly in humid, cold conditions. Clean all tools with water before the adhesive is allowed to dry. If dry, soak in water until adhesive is soft. Handy tips 1L covers approx. 8m2 To fill small gaps, Aquadhere can be mixed with sawdust. Longer clamping times may be required for joints under high stress, or alternatively use Selleys 308 High-Stress Wood Glue. Avoid contaminating Aquadhere with iron and steel, eg nails, etc. Aquadhere contaminated with rust (iron oxide) will stain brown/black in the presence of tannins in many kinds of wood. On very porous surfaces applying a thin layer to each side and allowing to soaking in before applying a second layer to one side only may result in a stronger bond Cured adhesive can be softened by prolonged contact with hot water or steam. Sanding isn’t an effective way to prepare for gluing, as it often leaves an uneven surface and may clog the timber which can stop the glue from penetrating and impact on your result. A straight router can be used to trim the edge, but be sure to only remove as much as required to obtain a suitable edge for gluing. If you are gluing over a larger surface, try using a small roller to aid in application. For cleaning surfaces prior to application of adhesive, if the surface is porous, we would recommend using SELLEYS Liquid Sugar Soap. If the surface is non-porous eg glass or metal, firstly clean the surface with mineral turpentine and then again with methylated spirits. If there is old, difficult to remove residue such as old paint, we recommend using paint stripper such as SELLEYS Kwik Strip Smart. Ensure the surface is dry before applying the product.
