Description
Hillmark Scalex Heavy Duty Home Descaler is a highly concentrated powder for clearing limescale, calcium deposits and rust from around the home, supplied here in a 375g pack. It is made for the hard water build-up that clogs up dishwashers and washing machines and stains bathtubs, toilet bowls, basins and tapware.
About the formula
A concentrated, water-soluble white powder, with sulfamic acid as the active ingredient. You can sprinkle it straight into an appliance or dissolve it in warm to hot water to make a descaling solution. It is designed to clean scale from plastic and metal parts, including the internal pipes and valves of dishwashers and washing machines. It also lifts rust stains, hard water deposits, tarnish and mineral build-up.
Where to use it
Kitchen: dishwashers.
Laundry: washing machines and laundry sinks.
Bathroom: bathtubs, toilet bowls, basins, drains, showerheads and tapware.
Suitable for glassware, plastic and metal parts, and for stainless steel showerheads and vases. Always confirm suitability with your appliance manufacturer before use.
How to use it
Warm to hot water gives the best descaling results. Wear rubber gloves and eye protection, and empty the appliance first.
Dishwasher: remove all dishes and cutlery, fill the detergent dispenser with Scalex, sprinkle 2 level tablespoons around the inside, then run one normal cycle.
Washing machine: remove all laundry, sprinkle 1 level tablespoon into the drum (not the soap dispenser), then run one normal cycle.
General descaling and rust removal: stir 1 level tablespoon into 1 litre of hot water. Soak showerheads or glassware in the solution for 5 minutes, then rinse well. For rust on bathtubs or toilet bowls, apply the solution to the stain and rinse promptly with cold water. Repeat with a double-strength solution if needed.
Important notes
Avoid contact with stainless steel cutlery containing chrome, as it may be permanently tarnished. Keep it away from plastic laminates, and avoid prolonged contact with aluminium, brass and copper. Keep dishes and clothes out of the appliance during treatment. The manufacturer does not recommend it for coffee machines. If you have a septic system, check the manufacturer's advice on dosage first.
