Description
Organoil Woodguard is a deeply penetrating oil treatment made to look after brand-new exterior timber in the period between installation and final finishing. Fresh hardwood often carries high moisture and, left bare, can cup, split, crack or bleed tannins as it dries out. Woodguard soaks into the boards and stabilises them while they acclimatise, so the timber arrives at oiling day in sound, even condition. It is made in Australia by Prep Productions and formulated for harsh Australian and New Zealand exposure.
Formula overview
A natural-oil blend built around tung oil and beeswax, carried by dipentene, a citrus-derived solvent. Rather than forming a film on top of the wood, the blend penetrates the timber surface, which is why it is applied as a single coat and later over-coated with a finishing oil.
Where to use it
Outdoor: new, raw timber decking, joists, bearers, cladding, posts, rails and exterior joinery. Particularly recommended for dense or high-moisture hardwoods such as spotted gum and plantation species before they are oiled.
Indoor: not intended for interior finishing. Woodguard is an exterior pre-treatment, not a furniture or floor finish.
How to use
- Stir well before use, as natural oils can settle.
- New raw timber can be treated directly. Timber that has already weathered in the elements should first be cleaned with a timber wash such as Organoil Wash-A-Way.
- Apply one coat only, using a brush or lambswool applicator.
- Coverage is up to 12 square metres per coat depending on timber density and porosity.
- Allow the treatment to dry fully before applying your finishing oil. Follow the can label for drying guidance.
Important notes
- Woodguard is an interim protectant, not a final finish. Plan to apply a decking or exterior timber oil afterwards.
- Designed as a one-coat application. Do not over-apply.
- For new or raw untreated timber only. Previously coated timber should be stripped and washed first.
