Application Instructions Ensure substrates are clean and free of oil, grease, or loose particles. Cut the seal and nozzle, then fit it to the cartridge and place it in the caulking gun. Hold the caulking gun at a 45° angle and gun the sealant ahead of the nozzle, ensuring the product is pushed into the joint. For neat joints, use masking tape on both sides of the joint and remove it before skinning. Tool with a soapy solution before skinning occurs. For optimal joint design, use non-absorbent backing material (e.g., polyethylene backer rod) and appropriate joint width/depth. See the technical datasheet for more information. Limitations Not suitable on polyethylene, polypropylene, or Teflon. Cure excess product before disposal. Not for permanent water immersion or below water-line use. Sika Firerate is a gunnable acrylic based jointing and sealing compound specially formulated with inorganic fillers to provide a fire barrier. Sika Firerate has been tested for fire resistance for up to 4 hours according to AS 1530.4 in masonry wall and floor joints. USE Sika Firerate is suitable for sealing joints in concrete or masonry that must have a fire rated resistance to Australian Standards. Sika® Firerate adheres without primers and/or activators. APPLICATION METHOD / TOOLS Sika® Firerate is supplied ready to use. After the necessary substrate preparation, insert a suitable backing rod to the required depth and apply any primer if necessary. Insert a foil pack or cartridge into the sealant gun and extrude Sika® Firerate into the joint making sure that it comes into full contact with the sides of the joint and avoids any air entrapment. Selleys Special Putty is a Linseed oil based, knife grade putty available in a natural colour. Features Easy to use. What materials is this putty suitable for? Wood Timber How to use this product Rebates and grooves should be rigid, free from distortion, true and square, and should be clean, dry and unobstructed before glazing. Rebates and grooves should be of a size which allows adequate edge cover and putty volume. Minimum bed putty – 2mm, minimum front putty – 4mm where timber beads are used, and 2mm bed putty and 12mm front putty where no glazing beads are used. Depth of rebate: 10mm for 3-4mm glass, 15mm for 5-8mm glass. Two coats of good quality house paint should be applied not less than 2 weeks and not more than 4 weeks after completion of glazing. Paint should be carried out 2mm above the top line of the putty. Handy tips Do not use kerosene, turps or other material to aid in working the putty Allow putty to skin before applying paint Product can be applied by hand or with a putty knife. Add a few drops of linseed oil on the hands or knife to make for easier working Putty can thicken in cold weather. Warming the putty by working it in the hands before the application will soften it. Allow the surfaces to skin prior to painting, which is approximately 30 minutes. Protect from rain until firmly skinned. Allow for longer skin and cure times in damp conditions. Some water based under coats & flat paints may crack on drying. To reduce this effect allows the product to cure for 24 hours in small gaps or 48 hours in larger gaps before painting with such paints. To improve the paint finish, wipe the sealant with detergent solution immediately before painting. Avoid smearing sealant on the surrounding surfaces as this may effects its paintability. Work in sections that can be completed before sealant skins. Tooling off and tape removal must be completed before skinning occurs or a rough surface may result so working in sections allows for a better finish. Keep a pack of SELLEYS Hand Kleen Wipes handy to wipe up any spills and for cleaning any material off the skin before it cures. They are an easy and effective way to keep clean on the job. Safetytips Uncured product may irritate eyes. Avoid contact with skin, if contact occurs, wipe off immediately and wash with detergent. It may irrtate sensitive skin. Avoid breathing in vapours. Refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for full details.Storage and re-use Store in cool dry conditions, below 30°C The sealant should be used within 6 months after opening. After use keep the nozzle on the cartridge Silicone is a reactive product and is designed to cure once exposed to air. While the product may be stored for a few months once opened, it does have a limited shelf life. Storage in an upright position in a cool dry place is recommended to maximise the storage life. If the sealant is going to be used again within a few days, leave the nozzle on and merely extrude approximately 2 cm of product before storing the cartridge upright. This will cure to a plug which can easily be pulled out when required. For longer storage periods, leave the nozzle on and place a piece of plasticene or Blu Tack over the end of the nozzle. Tightly tape a piece of aluminium foil over the whole nozzle to exclude any air. When you want to re-use the product, simply take off the foil and plug from the old nozzle pull out the excess silicone from the nozzle with a corkscrew, then re-pierce any cure at the tip of the cartridge and re-use. If cure has taken place into the cartridge, the product is unlikely to be in a useable state and should be discarded.

Surface Preparation: Ensure surfaces are clean and free of oil, grease, release agents, dust or loose particles. Porous surfaces should be prepared by grinding, brushing, wiping with cloths or blowing off with oil-free compressed air. Any laitance should be removed from concrete- based surfaces. Non-porous surfaces should be free of scale, rust or oxides and can be degreased with a solvent such as MEK, acetone or mineral turpentine. Some degreasing solvents may leave a residue that should be removed. For neat joints use masking tape on both sides of the joint and remove before skinning Joint Design: Refer to separate section. Metal Glass Painted Surfaces Surfaces to be sealed must be clean, dry and free from dust, grease, old mastic and flaking paint. If necessary clean with degreasing solvent such as mineral turps. Cut nozzle supplied at an angle and to the required opening. Cut tip off cartridge, fit nozzle and insert in suitable caulking gun such as Selleys Light Speed caulking gun. If sealing lap joints, apply suitable size bead of D-Mastic to one surface through the intended fasten line. Bring surfaces together squeezing the mastic bead out on both surfaces and mechanically fix join where necessary. If sealing open joints, apply D-Mastic forcing it into the joint ahead of the nozzle. This method aids in properly filling the joint and forcing mastic to wet on to the sides of the joint. If required, smooth surface with spatula dipped into mineral turps or kerosene. Limitations: Not an elastomeric compound, it should not be used in joints subject to considerable dynamic movement. Maximum service is achieved when used within joints; it is not recommended to be used as a"skim" coating over joints. Not recommended for use in joints required to resist static air or water pressure. If sealing lap joints, apply suitable size bead of D-Mastic to one surface through the intended fasten line.
