As a rule, the substrates must be prepared in accordance with the instructions given in the current Sika Pre-Treatment Chart. ApplicationCartridges: Cut tip to joint size.Puncture airtight seal. Install with hand or power operated gun.Unipacks: Place unipack in the application gun and snip off the closure clip. Cut off the tip of the nozzle to suit joint width and gun the sealant into the joint with a suitable compressed air or hand operated gun, taking care to avoid air entrapment. Once opened, packs should be used up within a relatively short space of time. Do not apply at temperatures below 40°F (5°C) or above 100°F (38°C). The optimum temperature for substrate and sealant is between 60°F (15°C) and 77°F (25°C). For advice on selecting and setting up a suitable pump system, please contact the System Engineering Department. Tooling and finishingTooling and finishing must be carried out within the tack-free time of the sealant. Finishing agents or lubricants must be tested for suitability/ compatibility. RemovalUncured Sikaflex®-227 can be removed from tools and equipment with Sika® Remover-208 or another suitable solvent. Once cured, the material can only be removed mechanically. Strictly follow the solvent manufacturer's instructions for use and warnings.Hands and exposed skin should be washed immediately using a suitable industrial hand cleaner and water. Do not use solvents on the skin! OverpaintingSikaflex®-227 can be overpainted when tack-free. The paint and paint process must be tested for compatibility by carrying out preliminary trials. Sikaflex®-227 should not be exposed to baking temperatures until it has attained a full cure. It should be understood that the hardness and film thickness of the paint may impair the elasticity of the sealant and lead to cracking of the paint film with time.

Use Showerbond is used for bonding plastic shower linings to wall linings. Application  Apply a 5-6 mm bead in vertical lines at 100 mm centres onto substrate, and apply continuous bead within 15 mm of the perimeter line of the shower lining.  Place shower lining onto wall within 10 minutes and firmly press the entire sheet with your hands so that full contact is made with all beads of adhesive.  Brace the lining as required in the shower manufacturer's installation instructions.  Bracing if required should remain in position for not less than 18 hours. The shower should not be used for at least 24 hours after the wall lining has been installed. Do not apply blobs of adhesive. These will cause unsightly undulations and buckles in the sheet.

Surface Preparation: Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry, and free from dust, oil, old grout, and other contaminants. For new tiling jobs, let tile adhesive set for at least 24 hours. For regrouting, completely remove old grout and thoroughly clean the joints. Application Instructions: Cut the cartridge tip and attach the nozzle. Trim to desired bead width. Using a caulking gun, apply grout into joints, pressing it in to eliminate air gaps. Smooth grout using a rubber float or grout applicator, working diagonally. After 15–20 minutes (depending on temperature), gently wipe tile surfaces with a damp sponge to remove excess grout and haze. Avoid over-wetting and excessive wiping, which can weaken the grout lines. After 24 hours, polish tile surfaces with a soft dry cloth to remove any remaining haze.     Selleys Brick and Concrete Silicone is a neutral (non-corrosive) cure 100% silicone sealant. It is low modulus or can be stretched easily, which makes it ideal for joints which will move significantly such as expansion joints in concrete, and is grey so it will blend in with the concrete surrounds. Allow to dry completely before applying silicone. If there old silicone which needs to be removed, we recommend using SELLEYS SILICONE REMOVER, this ingenous product makes removing old silicone easy. We also recommend sanding the surface back with a good quality sanding block, such as a ROTA COTA Sanding Block Medium/Course grain, as the silicone will adhere more readily to a scratched up surface. Ensure you tape both sides of the gap before applying the product. This ensures a neat finish and makes it easier to clean up. Cut the seal at the top of the cartridge and cut the nozzle at a 45° angle, to the size of the gap opening. Fit the nozzle to the top of the cartridge. Insert the cartridge into a caulking gun such as SELLEYS LIGHT SPEED Caulking gun. We recommend SELLEYS LIGHT SPEED Caulking Gun, as its new innovative pressure release design reduces the mess which results from run on and stress on your hands, which is critical if you are doing a lot of sealing. Hold the caulking gun at a 45° angle. Press the nozzle opening against the joint, apply steady pressure to the caulking gun and extrude the silicone sealant forcing the sealant into the gap and move in a pushing motion, along the joint in one smooth action. For a smooth finish, smooth with a finger dipped in mineral turpetine or for a professional finish use a paint scraper such as a 50mm ROTA COTA Soft Grip Scraper dipped in mineral turpetine. Excess sealant must be cleaned up before the sealant skins in 5-10 minutes. Wipe excess away with a cloth dampened in mineral turpetine or use a SELLEYS Hand Kleen Wipes. Remove tape before the sealant skins. Clean tools immediately in mineral turpetine. Avoid smearing on surrounding surfaces, see a handy tip. The sealant will cure fully in 72 hours. As this point, any unwanted sealant can be removed by trimming with a sharp blade but avoid undercutting the seal. Handy tips Tips for Using a Brick & Concrete Silicone Sealant Ensure you tape both sides of the gap before applying the product. This ensures a neat finish and makes it easier to clean up. When first applying product, extrude a small amount onto a piece of scrap material to ensure a smooth continuous flow of silicone sealant. Remove the tape before the silicone sealant skins. For a better finish complete painting prior to use of the sealant as it can not be painted over. For a better finish, use a spatula dipped in mineral turpentine or detergent and water to tool off the sealant. Work in sections that can be completed before sealant skins. Tooling off and tape removal must be completed before skinning occurs or a rough surface may result, so working in sections allows for a better finish. Keep a pack of SELLEYS Hand Kleen Wipes handy to wipe up any spills and for cleaning any material off the skin before it cures. They are an easy and effective way to keep clean on the job. Safety tips Uncured product may irritate eyes. If in eyes, flood the eyes for at least 15 minutes and seek medical advice. Avoid contact with skin, if contact occurs, wipe off immediately and wash with detergent. It may irritate sensitive skin. Avoid breathing in vapours. Ensure you use a well-ventilated area as product releases methyl ethyl ketoxime while curing. Keep away from children. Storage and re-use Store in cool dry conditions, below 30°C The sealant should be used within 6 months after opening. After use keep the nozzle on the cartridge Silicone is a reactive product and is designed to cure once exposed to humidity. While the product may be stored for a few months once opened, it does have a limited shelf life. Storage in an upright position in a cool dry place is recommended to maximise the storage life. If the sealant is going to be used again within a few days, leave the nozzle on and merely extrude approximately 2 cm of product before storing the cartridge upright. This will cure to a plug which can easily be pulled out when required. For longer storage periods, leave the nozzle on and place a piece of plasticene or Blu Tack over the end of the nozzle. Tightly tape a piece of aluminium foil over the whole nozzle to exclude any air. When you want to re-use the product, simply take off the foil and plug from the old nozzle pull out the excess silicone from the nozzle with a corkscrew, then re-pierce any cure at the tip of the cartridge and re-use. If cure has taken place into the cartridge, the product is unlikely to be in a useable state and should be discarded.

Remove contaminants such as dust, dirt, oil and grime with a solvent such as denatured alcohol (ethanol), acetone, rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) or lacquer thinner. Mild detergent solution in water is also good removing contaminants. Use a clean paper towel or rag for wiping. Do not use mineral spirits or paint thinner for removing contaminants. Remove rust and loose paint with sandpaper or wire brush. Epoxy typically sticks to most paints. If there is a concern of the paint’s adhesion then remove it with sandpaper or wire brush. Smooth, glossy and shiny surfaces should be roughened using sandpaper to increase adhesion. How to clean-up after PC-Crete™ application Clean up mixed epoxy before it cures with paper towels and solvent. Denatured alcohol (ethanol), acetone, rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) or lacquer thinner are suitable solvents for removing uncured epoxy. Cured epoxy can be removed with paint stripper or remover. Can PC-Crete™ be used to repair a crack in a fountain? PC-Crete™ looks like concrete and is excellent for repairing concrete fountains, statues and lawn decorations. Will PC-Crete™ adhere to a concrete step? Can it be shaped to match a corner? PC- Crete™ is excellent to repairs on concrete surfaces such as steps. It shapes easily and can be sanded to match the look and texture of the concrete surface. Is PC-Crete™ suitable for filling a small crack or spall in a sidewalk or deck? Small crack repairs in concrete are easily made with or without the use of tools using PC-Crete™. PC-Crete™ is excellent for replacing missing or loose mortar between bricks and stones. Can PC-Crete™ be used in a fish tank or pond? PC-Crete™ is not recommended for aquatic use. It's particularly suited for heavy duty applications such as studs into motor housings, nuts onto studs in pump housings and other fasteners where high strength is required. LOCTITE 263 provides robust curing performance. It not only works on active metals (e.g. brass, copper) but also on passive substrates such as stainless steel and plated surfaces. The product offers high-temperature performance and oil tolerance. It tolerates minor surface contaminations from various oils, such as cutting, lubrication, anti-corrosion and protection fluids. Step 2: Preparation Protect work area. Parts to be sealed must be clean and dry. Shake the product thoroughly before use. Step 3: Application For Thru Holes: Apply several drops of the product onto the bolt at the nut engagement area. For Blind Holes: Apply several drops of the product down the internal threads to the bottom of the hole.  For Sealing Applications: Apply a 360°bead of product to the leading threads of the male fitting, leaving the first thread free. Force the material into the threads to thoroughly fill the voids. For bigger threads and voids, adjust product amount accordingly and apply a 360°bead of product on the female threads also. Assemble parts and tighten as required. Sets in approximately 10 minutes and fully cures in 24 hours.  Step 4: Cleanup Clean adhesive residue immediately with a damp cloth. Cured product can be removed with a combination of soaking in methylene chloride and mechanical abrasion such as a wire brush.  For disassembly, shear with standard hand tools and remove with methylene chloride. In rare instances where hand tools do not work because of excessive engagement length, apply localized heat to nut or bolt to approximately 250°C. Disassemble while hot. Directions for use: For Assembly 1. For best results, clean all surfaces (external and internal) with a LOCTITE® cleaning solvent and allow to dry 2. If the cure speed is too slow, use appropriate activator. Please see the Cure Speed vs. Activator graph for reference. Allow the activator to dry when needed 3. Users are recommended to confirm the compatibility of the product with such substrates. Directions for use: For Assembly 1. For best results, clean all surfaces (external and internal) with a LOCTITE® cleaning solvent and allow to dry 2. If the cure speed is too slow, use appropriate activator. Please see the Cure Speed vs. Activator graph for reference. Allow the activator to dry when needed 3. Shake the product thoroughly before use 4. To prevent the product from clogging in the nozzle, do not allow the tip to touch metal surfaces during application 5. For Thru Holes, apply several drops of the product onto the bolt at the nut engagement area 6. For Blind Holes, apply several drops of the product to the lower third of the internal threads in the blind hole, or the bottom of the blind hole 7. For Sealing Applications, apply a 360° bead of product to the leading threads of the male fitting, leaving the first thread free. Force the material into the threads to thoroughly fill the voids. For bigger threads and voids, adjust product amount accordingly and apply a 360° bead of product on the female threads also 8. Assemble and tighten as required For Disassembly 1. Remove with standard hand tools 2. In rare instances where hand tools do not work because of excessive engagement length, apply localized heat to nut or bolt to approximately 250 °C. (ISO 34) Service Temperature −40 °C to +70 °C SUBSTRATE PREPARATION The substrate must be clean, dry, sound and homogeneous, free from oils, grease, dust and loose or friable particles. Sikaflex® Crystal Clear adheres without primers and/or activators. However, for optimum adhesion and critical, high performance applications, such as on multi-story buildings, highly stressed joints, extreme weather exposure or water immersion, the following priming and/or pretreatment procedures shall be followed: Non-porous substrates Aluminium, anodised aluminium, stainless steel, PVC, galvanised steel, powder coated metals or glazed tiles have to be cleaned and pre-treated using Sika® Aktivator-205, wiped on with a clean towel. Before sealing, allow a flash-off time of > 15 minutes (< 6 hours). Other metals, such as copper, brass and titanium-zinc, also have to be cleaned and pre-treated using Sika® Aktivator-205,wiped on with a clean towel. After the necessary flash-off time, use a brush to apply Sika® Primer-3 N and allow a further flash-off time of > 30minutes (< 8 hours) before sealing the joints. Porous substrates Concrete, aerated concrete and cement based renders, mortars and bricks shall be primed using Sika® Primer-3 N applied with a brush. Before sealing, allow a flash-off time of > 30 minutes (< 8 hours).For more detailed advice and instructions please contact the local Sika Technical Services Department. Note: Primers are adhesion promoters. They are neither a substitute for the correct cleaning of a surface, nor do they improve the strength of the surface significantly. Bonding After substrate preparation, apply Sikaflex® Crystal Clear in beads, strips or spots to the bonding surface in intervals of a few centimetres each. Use hand pressure only to set the element to be bonded into position. If necessary, use SikaTack® Panel Tape during the initial hours of curing. An incorrectly positioned element can easily be unfastened and repositioned during the first few minutes after application. Apply pressure again. Optimum bonding will be obtained after the complete curing of Sikaflex® Crystal Clear. The recommended adhesive layer thickness (depending on surface evenness) is ≤3 mm. Fresh, uncured adhesive remaining on the surface must be removed immediately. Final strength will be obtained after complete curing of Sikaflex® Crystal Clear. Sealing After the necessary substrate preparation, insert a suitable backing rod to the required depth and apply any primer if necessary. Insert a cartridge into the sealant gun and extrude Sikaflex® Crystal Clear into the joint making sure that it comes into full contact with the sides of the joint and avoids any air entrapment. Sikaflex® Crystal Clear sealant must be firmly tooled against the joint sides to ensure adequate adhesion. It is recommended to use masking tape where exact joint lines or neat lines are required. Remove the tape within the skin time. Do not use tooling products containing solvents. Cleaning of Tools Clean all tools and application equipment immediately after use with Sika® Remover-208 and/or Sika® Wonder Wipes. Once cured, residual material can only be removed mechanically.

Slightly dampen dry timber surfaces to improve bond and accelerate cure. Surface treatment depends on the substrate and is crucial for durability. Refer to the current Sika® Pre-treatment Chart for Marine Applications and verify with tests on original substrates. Application Process between 5 °C and 40 °C; reactivity and handling change with temperature and humidity. Optimum substrate and product temperature is 15 – 25 °C. Apply with hand, pneumatic, or electric piston guns, or suitable pump equipment. Tooling & Finishing Tool within the skin time. Recommended finishing agent: Sika® Tooling Agent N (test any alternative agent for suitability). Cleaning & Removal Uncured material: remove from tools/equipment with Sika® Remover-208 or a suitable solvent. Cured material: remove mechanically (e.g. knife, wire, abrasion). Skin/hands: clean immediately with Sika® Cleaner-350H towels or an appropriate industrial hand cleaner and water. Do not use solvents on skin. Overpainting Best painted after skin formation; performance can be improved by treating the joint surface with Sika® Aktivator-100 or Sika® Aktivator-205 before painting. If the paint requires baking > 80 °C, allow the sealant to fully cure first. Always conduct preliminary trials under manufacturing conditions. Avoid using enamel, alkyd, and chlorinated rubber paints on the joint area. Compliance & Approvals Meets requirements set out by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Yes, once cured and after preliminary testing for compatibility. Note that paint elasticity is usually lower than the sealant’s and may crack over the joint. Enamel, alkyd, and chlorinated rubber paints should not be used on the joint area. What is a “marine grade” sealant/adhesive? Sika’s marine range is designed for flexible, waterproof, and durable assemblies across vessels from small yachts to large ships, for maintenance and construction tasks above and below the waterline. When and why should a primer be used? Primers promote adhesion on certain substrates. Sika® Primer-210 is commonly used prior to applying 1-component polyurethanes like Sikaflex®-291. Always confirm with testing. What does the Wheelmark indicate? The Wheelmark symbolizes conformity with marine equipment standards under the EU Marine Equipment Directive (MED). Which substrates does Sikaflex®-291 bond to? Wood; metals, metal primers and 2-C paint systems; ceramics; and plastics such as GRP. Avoid plastics prone to stress cracking (e.g. acrylic/Plexiglas®, polycarbonate). How do I remove Sikaflex®-291? Uncured: Sika® Hand Wipes or Sika® Remover-208 for tools/surfaces.
