Description
3M All Weather Duct Tape is a weather-tough cloth duct tape made for repairs and reinforcement that have to cope with sun, rain and temperature swings, supplied here as a single 48mm x 22.8m roll. It is positioned above 3M's general use duct tape for outdoor work, so it suits jobs around the yard, shed, workshop and site where a standard tape would dry out or let go.
About the formula
This is a cloth-reinforced duct tape with a polyethylene and cloth scrim backing and a natural rubber adhesive. 3M designed it to grip on contact and keep its hold through heat, cold and wet weather without drying out, peeling or cracking. The tape conforms to uneven surfaces for a snug seal, and it tears by hand both along and across the roll, so you do not need scissors for quick jobs.
Where to use it
Indoors: temporary patching and sealing, bundling and holding, reinforcing tool handles and general workshop or household repairs.
Outdoors: weatherproofing and patching outdoor equipment and gear, temporary repairs to items left exposed to sun and rain, and reinforcing tools used on site.
Suitable for a wide range of clean, dry surfaces. As with any tape, test a small area first on delicate, textured or freshly painted finishes.
How to use it
Clean the surface so it is free of dust, grease, moisture and loose material, then let it dry fully. Unroll the length you need, tear it by hand and press it down firmly, smoothing from one end to the other to remove air pockets and make full contact. For a weather-exposed repair, overlap the edges so water cannot creep underneath.
Important notes
Duct tape is intended for temporary and light-duty repairs and reinforcement. It is not a substitute for structural fixing, and it is not designed for electrical insulation or for gas or fuel line repairs. Adhesion is best on clean, dry surfaces and may be reduced on dusty, oily, damp or low-energy plastic surfaces. Over time and with extended exposure, any tape can leave adhesive residue when removed, so check the surface first if the finish matters.
