Description
Ametalin Reinforced Insulation / Ducting Tape is a scrim-reinforced foil tape made for joining and sealing reflective insulation and closing up ductwork, supplied here as a single 48mm x 50m roll. It is built to be tougher and more flexible than a standard foil tape, and the manufacturer says it grips with more adhesion and tack than traditional cloth duct tapes.
About the formula
The tape is a 0.178 mm construction made up of aluminium foil, a polyethylene (PE) scrim for reinforcement, and a cold-weather acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive, supplied on a silicone-coated paper liner. It is vapour sealing and designed to complement Ametalin's reflective membranes. It is UV resistant, fire tested, hand tearable and stands up to humid conditions. The manufacturer rates it for use from minus 30°C to plus 120°C, and says it will not delaminate with age.
Where to use it
Indoors: sealing joins in foil insulation and wall wraps, taping floor insulation, and closing up HVAC and air-conditioning ductwork.
Outdoors and in roof spaces: joining tile and metal roof sarking and sealing laps in wall wraps.
Designed for use with reflective foil and foam insulation, roof sarking, wall wraps, floor insulation and ducting. Always test the tape on your own materials before committing to a whole job.
How to use it
Make sure the surfaces are clean, dry and free of oil and other contaminants. Centre the tape over the join, then press it down firmly with a plastic squeegee so it follows every contour and makes full contact. The tape tears by hand, so you do not need scissors or a knife.
Important notes
The manufacturer recommends testing for suitability in your particular application. Store the roll in a clean, dry place out of direct sunlight. For thicker foam-core insulation products, the reinforced tape is the one Ametalin recommends over its standard foil tape.

Safety
Use with normal care. Wear gloves if you are handling the foil edges or working in a tight roof space, and make sure the area is well lit and ventilated.
