Description
Bastion Mastic Tile Adhesive is a white, cement-based powder adhesive for fixing wall and floor tiles, supplied here in a 20kg bag for larger tiling jobs. It is a non-slump mix, so tiles stay where you put them on vertical surfaces. It suits both interior and exterior tiling.
About the formula
A cement-based powder that you mix with clean water to a thick, creamy, lump-free mortar. The non-slump body helps tiles hold their position on walls. The manufacturer data sheet lists an open time of 15 minutes and an adjustment time of 20 minutes. Site conditions affect these times, so only spread as much adhesive as you can tile before it skins over.
Where to use it
Indoors: wall and floor tiling over concrete, renders and screeds.
Outdoors: external wall and floor tiling on the same types of substrate.
Suitable tile types listed by the manufacturer are ceramic tiles, porcelain, glass mosaics and natural stone (excluding moisture-sensitive stone). Suitable substrates are concrete, renders and screeds.
How to use it
Add the powder to clean water in a large, clean container while stirring vigorously with a paddle mixer. A 20kg bag needs about 6 litres of water. Mix for several minutes, leave it to stand for five minutes, then remix. As a general guide, use a notched trowel of at least 6 x 6 x 6mm on walls and at least 10 x 10 x 10mm on floors. The adhesive can be applied at a bed thickness of more than 3mm and less than 10mm. Check that there are no voids under the tile and do not spot fix.
Important notes
Not suitable for moisture-sensitive or dimensionally unstable natural stone. Coverage varies with substrate condition, tile type and technique. As a guide, a 20kg bag covers about 10m2 on walls with a 6mm notched trowel, or about 7m2 on floors with a 10mm notched trowel. Always check the current data sheet and SDS for shelf life, curing and grouting times, and any limits for your tile and substrate.
