Description
Bastion Waterproofing Reinforcing Fabric is a lightweight woven polyester fabric that is embedded between coats of liquid waterproofing membrane, supplied here as a 100mm wide x 50m roll. It adds protective reinforcement to the cured membrane and helps the finished coating stand up to movement, puncturing and general wear, particularly in the spots most likely to fail.
About the fabric
A white woven polyester fabric that wets into liquid membrane coats easily, so it beds down neatly without fuss. It resists rupture and tearing, has good rot resistance, and helps lift the puncture resistance and tensile strength of the membrane finish. It is also compatible with cement-based finishes such as tile adhesives, renders and textures.
Where to use it
Indoors: reinforcing critical areas of movement in a waterproofing system, including joints, internal corners, and around pipes and other penetrations, as well as over cracks in the substrate.
Outdoors: use as part of a membrane system where the membrane itself is rated for the exposure. Check the membrane manufacturer's instructions for the specific application.
Designed for use with liquid waterproofing membranes and cement-based finishes. The 100mm width suits narrow strips along junctions, corners, joints and cracks. Always follow the instructions for the membrane system you are using.
How to use it
Prepare the substrate and apply any primer and the first membrane coat as directed by the membrane manufacturer. While the coat is still wet, lay the fabric into it, smooth it flat and wet it in fully so it is saturated and free of wrinkles and air bubbles. Overlap cut ends so the reinforcement is continuous, then apply the following membrane coat over the top, as per the membrane's instructions. Cut the fabric to length with scissors or a sharp knife.
Important notes
This is a reinforcing fabric only and does not waterproof on its own. It must be used with a suitable liquid waterproofing membrane. Coating thickness, number of coats, drying times and compliance with wet area requirements (such as AS 3740) depend on the membrane system and installation method, so check the membrane's technical data and local requirements. Store the roll clean and dry.
