Description
Bondall Betta Tilecare Shower Sealer is a clear, penetrating sealer that helps waterproof unglazed tiles and grout in showers and other wet areas, supplied in a 500ml pack. It soaks into the surface rather than sitting on top, so it protects without leaving a slippery film. It is made in Australia by Bondall and suits DIYers who want a simple, invisible finish.
About the formula
A transparent, penetrating sealer based on silane chemistry. It leaves an invisible water-repellent finish with a non-slip feel, and the cured surface resists standard household chemicals. The same product is also sold under the Bondall TileGuard Shower Sealer name.
Where to use it
Indoors: shower walls and floors, bathroom tiling and grout, and other wet areas where the tiles and grout are unglazed.
Outdoors: not specifically promoted by the manufacturer for outdoor use, so check the label before using it outside.
Suitable surfaces include most unglazed tiles and grout, such as terracotta, ceramic, marble and slate.
How to use it
Remove old silicone strips and soap build-up first. Clean off mould using a mould cleaner or bleach, then rinse thoroughly with water. Repair or patch any loose or missing grout. Let the area dry for about 12 to 24 hours before sealing, or 3 to 4 days if the surface is porous or has just been high-pressure washed. Test a small, inconspicuous spot first. Apply with a paint brush, roller or pump spray, working evenly and avoiding pooling or heavy over-application, especially on pitted surfaces. If the product runs, wipe it back with a clean, dry, low-lint cloth. The manufacturer lists a 15 minute recoat time and 24 hours for a full dry.
Important notes
Not suitable for glazed surfaces. It is not designed to waterproof a water-holding vessel, such as a pot used as a fish pond. Grout should be in sound condition, as the sealer will not cover hairline cracks. It does not fix structural or plumbing defects in a shower, so refer those to the appropriate trade. Treat stains, moss and mould before sealing. Reviewers have reported staining on painted tiles with related Bondall sealers, so always test first.
