Description
Bondall BondCrete is an Australian made bonding and sealing agent that has been a building and renovating staple since 1951, supplied here in a 1L pack. One product covers several jobs: a woodworking and craft adhesive straight from the container, a primer and sealer when diluted, and a bonding additive for cement, sand and render mixes.
About the formula
A concentrated, high solids, water-based polymer product that contains a resin additive for strong bonding. It is white in the container and dries clear with no gloss. Because it is so concentrated, it can be diluted with water for most jobs, which stretches a single litre a long way. Bondall says there is seldom any need to hack, chip or acid etch most surfaces before bonding.
Where to use it
Indoors: tile bedding and fixing, bonding render or toppings to prepared surfaces, sealing and dustproofing concrete floors in covered areas, priming porous walls before water-based paint, and woodworking and general craft projects.
Outdoors: Bondall directs that exterior sealing needs its separate paving and concrete sealer, and BondCrete is not intended to be exposed to water, moisture or dampness. Treat this product as an interior or covered-area product.
Suitable materials include concrete, brick and other masonry, plaster, stone, tiles and timber, along with other porous surfaces.
How to use it
Start with a surface free of dirt, dust, oil, grease and loose or flaking material. Stir well before use. Dilution ratios from the manufacturer (BondCrete to water):
- Sealer coat: 1 part BondCrete to 4 parts water
- Bondcoat for bedding, render or topping: 1 part to 1 part water. Apply the bedding while the coat is still wet or tacky.
- Admix for cement, sand and render: 1 part BondCrete to 10 parts water, used in place of mixing water. As a guide, 1L makes enough admix for about 20kg of cement.
- Woodworking adhesive: use neat, applied to one surface only. Press the pieces together and clamp lightly.
Allow a sealer coat to dry for about 24 hours before painting with a water-based or acrylic paint.
Important notes
Used neat, it sets in about 30 minutes and reaches maximum strength after 24 hours. Cement mixes made with BondCrete still follow normal curing, with full cure at around 4 weeks. It is not suitable for bonding plastic, rubber, glass or other non-porous materials. It is not suitable for permanently wet areas. Do not seal a floor with it if you plan to use an oil-based paving paint or similar floor coating. Drying times vary with the application and temperature, so allow at least 24 hours between coats. Protect it from freezing and from extremes of temperature and direct sunlight.
