Description
Bondall Ranex Rustbuster is a fast-working rust treatment that converts rust into a stable iron phosphate layer, here in a handy 250ml bottle for tools, bikes, boats and household jobs. It does double duty as a rust converter before painting and as a cleaner that lifts surface rust, tarnish and bore water stains from polished metal and other non-porous surfaces.
About the formula
A clear, phosphoric acid based liquid that penetrates rust and chemically changes the damaging iron oxide into a beneficial phosphate of iron. Because it destroys the rust rather than just covering it, rust-inhibiting paints are not needed over the treated area. It will convert existing rust but does not stop rust returning, so treated metal that is left uncoated can rust again. It is also used to brighten stainless steel, chrome, brass and copper.
Where to use it
Indoors: baths, basins and toilets, and other non-porous surfaces marked by rust, bore water or mineral stains.
Outdoors: bikes, hand tools, boats, fittings and other rusted metal around the yard, workshop or marina.
Suitable for rusted steel and iron, stainless steel, chrome, brass and copper, plus non-porous surfaces with rust or bore water stains (spot test first on anything you are unsure about, including tinted gelcoat).
How to use it
Always wear gloves, protective clothing and eye protection.
Rust conversion: remove oil, grease, paint and loose scale first. Apply Ranex to the rusted areas only, by brush, roller, rag or dipping, and let it dry without wiping it off so it can work into the rust. Drying takes anywhere from 1 to 24 hours depending on the application and conditions. Wipe any excess off surrounding metal or paintwork with a damp cloth straight away. Deep-seated rust may need a second coat after 24 hours. Once completely dry, topcoat with an oil-based primer and paint. Zinc-rich paints are not recommended.
Surface rust and tarnish: apply with a damp cloth, sponge or fine steel wool, then wipe off promptly and polish with a dry cloth. Small rusty parts can be soaked for a few minutes and checked until clean, then wiped or washed off.
Stains: work it into the stain, then wipe off. Do not leave it sitting on the surface.
Clean up tools and drips with detergent and water.
Important notes
Not suitable for vehicle paintwork, Colorbond, dry concrete, anti-fouling paint, marble, or anodised, Zincalume and galvanised surfaces. The product reacts chemically on contact, so read the label directions before starting. Ranex converts rust but does not prevent it from forming again, so prime and paint the treated surface for lasting protection.

Safety
Corrosive. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and eye or face protection, avoid breathing mist or vapour, wash skin thoroughly after handling, and do not eat, drink or smoke while using. For eye contact, rinse with water for at least 15 minutes and get medical help. Keep in the original container with the lid closed, and keep away from strong bases, oxidising agents and metals, as contact with common metals can release flammable hydrogen. Refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for full details.
