Cabot's Deck Clean Timber Cleaner 1L (Concentrate)

Description

Cabot's Deck Clean is a concentrated exterior timber cleaner that gets decks, pergolas and weatherboards ready for recoating, supplied here in a 1L bottle that suits small to medium jobs. It lifts dirt, oils, grease and weathering from new and old timber, leaving a cleaner, fresher surface for oil, stain, paint or exterior varnish to grip.

About the formula
An oxalic acid-based, blue liquid concentrate that you dilute with water before use. It is designed to rejuvenate grey, weathered and soiled timber, and to help clear mould and other surface contaminants. It is not a paint remover, although it may lift some old, weathered coatings from timber. It cleans up with water.

Where to use it
Indoors: not intended for indoor use.
Outdoors: decks, steps and handrails, pergolas, weatherboards, window frames, doors, outdoor furniture and other exposed exterior timber, whether bare or previously oiled or stained.

Suitable for new and old exterior timber. Protect nearby plants, metal and paintwork that are not to be cleaned.

How to use it
Wear gloves and eye protection. Scrub off heavy dirt or oil with hot soapy water and a stiff broom or brush, then hose the area clean. Cover plants, shrubs, metal and painted surfaces with plastic sheeting. Shake the bottle, wet the timber with a hose, and test a small area first. Mix one part Deck Clean with four parts water in a bucket (use a stronger mix for stubborn stains). Apply generously with a brush or broom, scrub well, and leave on the timber for 10 to 20 minutes. Rinse off with a hose or high pressure water, and do not let the solution dry on the surface. Badly stained decks may need a second pass, harder scrubbing or a pressure washer.

Important notes
In hot weather, avoid working in direct sun. Lightly dampen the timber to cool it and work in the shade. If the solution touches plants, metal or paintwork, rinse it off straight away and thoroughly. Wash-off water should be kept out of garden beds. Allow the timber to dry before applying your chosen top coat, and follow the directions on that coating.
