Description
CAgroup Byute Flex Repair Tape is a stretchable aluminium and butyl repair tape made for temporary roof and gutter fixes, supplied here as a 100mm wide x 5m roll. Its ribbed, malleable aluminium face can be stretched and moulded around awkward shapes, so it is a handy option when flat flashing tape will not sit properly.
About the formula
The tape pairs a ribbed aluminium facing with a high-tack butyl adhesive backing. The ribbed structure lets it stretch by up to 80% and flex around corners, pipes and uneven surfaces while still forming a weatherproof temporary seal. The manufacturer states it bonds firmly to most clean, dry surfaces.
Where to use it
Indoors: not intended as an interior product.
Outdoors: temporary repairs on roofs and gutters, including awkward spots such as downpipes, square hollow section pipes and spinner vents where a flexible, conforming tape is easier to work with.
Suitable surfaces listed by the manufacturer include roof tiles, brick and concrete, metal, polycarbonate and fibre cement. Surfaces must be clean and dry.
How to use it
Clean the area and let it dry fully, removing dust, dirt, grease and loose material. Cut the tape to the length you need, peel back the liner and press the tape into position. Stretch and form it to follow the contours of the repair area, then press down firmly so the butyl adhesive makes full contact with the surface.
Important notes
This is sold as a temporary roof and gutter repair product, so plan a proper permanent repair where the damage is significant. Application to damp, dirty or dusty surfaces will reduce adhesion. Always test on a small area first if you are unsure about a particular surface, such as a painted or coated finish.
