CAgroup One On One Heavy Duty Double Sided Butyl Sealing Tape 48mm x 5m

Description

One On One Heavy Duty Double Sided Sealing Tape from CAgroup (Consolidated Alloys) is a butyl rubber tape that sticks and seals in a single step, supplied here as a 48mm x 5m roll. It is aimed at builders, roofers and DIYers who need a tacky, water-resistant seal between building materials, membranes and sheeting without mixing, gunning or waiting for anything to cure.

About the formula
The tape is a highly water-resistant butyl rubber sealant supplied on a siliconised kraft paper release liner, which peels away cleanly so the tape is easy to handle and position. The soft butyl adhesive conforms to rough and textured surfaces, so it can follow uneven substrates and fill small surface irregularities as it is pressed into place. It is described by the manufacturer as suitable for joining, sealing, waterproofing and absorbing vibration.

Where to use it
Indoors: joining and sealing builders film, polythene sheeting and sisalation foil, and damping vibration or noise on audio parts and similar fittings.
Outdoors: sealing joints for waterproofing in construction and joining and sealing membranes on building sites.

Suitable materials include glass, metal, wood, rendered concrete and plastics, including both high and low energy surfaces. Always test a small area first on unfamiliar plastics or coated surfaces.

How to use it
Make sure the surfaces are clean, dry and free of dust, oil, grease and loose material. Measure and cut the tape to length, peel back the kraft liner as you go, and position the tape without stretching it. Press the tape down firmly along its full length, then bring the second surface or membrane into place and apply even pressure so the butyl makes full contact. If the substrate is very rough, press harder or work the tape in so it can conform to the texture.

Important notes
Butyl tape is a soft, pressure-sensitive sealant, not a structural adhesive, so do not rely on it alone to carry heavy loads. Butyl rubber can be softened by some solvents, so keep it away from solvent-based products unless you have checked compatibility. The manufacturer has not supplied application temperature limits, service temperature range, thickness or standards compliance figures for this size, so none are stated here. If you need compliance with a specific standard or approval (for example for damp-proof courses), confirm it with CAgroup before use.
