Description
Crommelin DiamondTough Stone Shield Clear Sealer is a premium waterborne sealer made for dense natural stone, supplied here in a 1L pack that suits benchtops, feature walls and smaller floor areas. It protects against stains and water, dries clear, and leaves a natural to low sheen finish. Crommelin previously sold it as DiamondCoat Stone Shield. The brand says only the name has changed, not the product.
About the formula
A water-based sealer that both penetrates the surface and forms a thin protective film, while still letting the stone breathe. It resists staining and abrasion and repels water well. It also contains an anti-microbial additive that helps stop mould and algae growing on the sealed surface. It is low odour and low VOC, dries quickly, and can be recoated soon after the first coat. It can be applied to vertical and horizontal surfaces.
Where to use it
Indoors: dense stone floor and wall tiles, stone and concrete benchtops, kitchens and living areas, and polished concrete.
Outdoors: natural stone cladding and other exterior dense stone surfaces that suit a clear, low sheen protective coat.
Suitable surfaces include granite, marble, bluestone, travertine, porcelain, polished concrete, terracotta, reconstituted stone and natural quarry stone. Always test a small patch first to check the colour enhancement, finish and slip resistance.
How to use it
The surface must be clean and fully dry before you start. Crommelin requires a moisture test every time. If the surface has been acid etched, neutralise and rinse it thoroughly first. Apply the first coat evenly with a clean, lint-free tool so the surface is wet but no white excess liquid is left standing. Suitable tools are a brush, a roller, a lambswool applicator, a lint-free cloth or an airless sprayer. Apply the second coat in the same way once the first is touch dry, and within 2 hours. On very dense surfaces such as polished marble, the sealer may only need to be wiped on. If streaky film builds up on a dense surface once dry, wash it with warm soapy water, rinse and buff with a soft cloth. Clean tools with warm water and a little detergent straight after use.
Important notes
Do not apply when it is too hot or cold, when humidity is high, or when rain is expected within 48 hours. Allow about 24 hours before light foot traffic. Full cure takes around 7 days. Over-applying can leave a visible film on very dense stone, so work thinly and use a test patch to confirm the right rate. This product is a clear sealer. It cannot be tinted.

Safety
Even so, avoid contact with skin and eyes, avoid breathing spray mist, and wear suitable protective clothing, gloves and eye protection when spraying. Keep the container sealed and store it in a cool, dry place. Keep it out of reach of children, and do not let it enter drains or waterways. Refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for full details.
