Description
The Crommelin Flexible Membrane Reinforcing Internal Corner is a pre-formed 90° corner piece that strengthens the most vulnerable junctions in a liquid applied waterproofing system, supplied here as a single piece. It is made to be embedded in wet Crommelin brush or roller applied membrane. It gives wall to wall and wall to floor corners a flexible, seamless waterproof detail without cutting and folding fabric on site.
About the product
The corner is built from rot proof TPE rubber and polyester fabric. It is designed to accommodate structural movement in joint areas where cracking and splitting often start. It is highly durable and tear resistant, and it suits quick, straightforward installation. The manufacturer states it is suitable for use with membranes approved to AS 3740, AS 4858 and the Australian Building Code. It is part of the Crommelin Flexible Membrane Reinforcing & Bond Breaking range, which also includes an external corner, a pipe and tap sleeve and bond breaking tape.
Where to use it
Indoors: showers and bathrooms, laundries and kitchens, wherever a wet area membrane meets an internal corner.
Outdoors: balconies and roofs, podiums and decks, retaining walls, planter boxes, tanks and ponds, when used with a suitable Crommelin liquid applied membrane.
This corner is intended for use with Crommelin liquid applied waterproofing membranes applied by brush or roller. Choose the right Crommelin membrane for your project and substrate.
How to use it
Prepare the surface and prime it as directed for the membrane you are using, then let the primer dry. Brush a generous coat of membrane over the corner area, at a minimum wet film thickness of 0.6mm. Cover enough area to match the entire back of the corner piece, and make the coat thick enough for good adhesion. Do not let the membrane skin or dry before the corner goes in. Press the corner into the wet membrane. Work over all edges with a brush so they are fully embedded and no creases or air pockets remain. Then brush more membrane over the top surface so the corner is completely wet embedded. If the corner you are waterproofing is not exactly 90°, snip about 20mm along each of the three fold lines with scissors before installing. This helps the corner sit flush. Once all corners are in, treat the remaining wall to wall and wall to floor joints as directed in the Crommelin technical data sheet, then complete the membrane coats as directed.
Important notes
Drying times of the waterproofing membrane may be longer where reinforcing is used. If the corner is still visible after the membrane is applied, add further coats to reach the right film build. Always follow the application, recoat and tile-over instructions for the specific membrane you are using. Check that the membrane is compatible with this corner before you start.
