Description
Crommelin Sprayable Exterior Grade Waterproofing is a rubberised, shake-and-spray waterproofing coating in a 400ml aerosol, made for outdoor areas that cop regular water and UV exposure. It is designed to seep into and seal leaks, cracks and small gaps, leaving a flexible, watertight film that suits quick repairs on roofs, gutters and similar exterior surfaces. This pack is the grey finish.
About the formula
A rubberised coating delivered from a pressurised can, so there is no brush, roller or mixing involved. The manufacturer describes it as UV stable, weather resistant (it does not fade or yellow), permanently flexible and fast drying. It also helps protect the coated surface from corrosion and stops moisture getting through. Once cured it can be overcoated with most water-based (acrylic) paints.
Where to use it
Indoors: not intended for interior use. This is an exterior grade product.
Outdoors: roofs and gutters, chimneys, skylights, block and brickwork, hoses, air conditioner drip pans and ductwork.
Suitable surfaces listed by the manufacturer include metal (steel and aluminium), concrete and masonry, roofing materials, timber and particle board, PVC piping and fibreglass. The product has not been tested for use in potable water systems.
How to use it
Surfaces must be clean, sound and dry, and free of dust, grease, release agents, loose particles and other contaminants. Shake the can vigorously for one minute, and do a test spray on cardboard to get a feel for the spray pattern. Hold the can roughly 8 to 18cm from the surface and apply a thin first coat, which acts as a primer, then let it dry. Follow with a heavier coat, moving the nozzle a little closer to build a thicker film. For longer-lasting protection apply three to four coats, and for wider cracks and gaps keep adding coats until the cavity is filled. Apply to the positive side only (the side where water enters the substrate). Recoat once touch dry, which is about 20 to 30 minutes depending on thickness, weather and site conditions, and allow good airflow to help it cure.
Important notes
Apply in temperatures of about 10 to 30 degrees C and avoid applying when humidity is high (the recommended maximum is 85% during application and cure). Avoid spraying in high wind or dusty conditions. Cold temperatures and poor airflow will lengthen cure times. It can be painted over after 24 hours. Full cure takes 48 hours, and the coating should not be exposed to water until then. Coverage depends on the shape and condition of the surface. Always do a small test area first.
