Description
DETA Insulation PVC Tape in red is a 600V-rated electrical insulation tape in an 18mm x 20m roll, suited to domestic and industrial wiring work. It is a general-purpose PVC tape for insulating and protecting connections, and the red colour also makes it handy for identifying and colour-coding conductors and cables.
About the tape
A soft, flexible PVC film with a pressure-sensitive adhesive backing, made to grip well and keep its hold in changing weather. It is 0.18mm thick, resists cold and UV, and seals out moisture. It is lead free, RoHS approved and UL listed. This is the standard (non flame retardant) version, so choose a flame retardant tape if your job calls for one.
Where to use it
Indoors: insulating and tidying wire joins, terminations and cable runs in domestic and commercial electrical work, and colour-coding wiring.
Outdoors: protecting taped connections that are exposed to sun, cold and damp, thanks to its UV and cold resistance and moisture sealing.
Suitable for wrapping around insulated and bare conductors, cable joins and wiring harnesses, and for general electrical insulation tasks within its 600V rating.
How to use it
Isolate the circuit before starting. Make sure the cable or joint is clean, dry and free of oil and dust. Start the tape on a sound area, then wrap it around the joint with a slight stretch and an overlap on each turn so there are no gaps. Carry on past the end of the join onto the cable insulation, then finish with a firm press down of the tail so it sits flat. Cut the tape rather than tearing it so the end does not stretch and lift.
Important notes
Electrical work should be carried out by a licensed electrician. The tape is rated for use up to 600V and should not be used above that. It is not flame retardant. Keep the tape clear of sharp edges and cable ties that may cut into it. Check the finished wrap and re-wrap if the tape has lifted or been stretched too thin.
