Description
Dy-Mark MetalPro Rust Converter is a tannic acid based rust converter in a 350g aerosol, made for treating rusted steel and iron without stripping back to bare metal. One coat reacts with the rust and leaves a black, moisture-sealing layer that can sit under most paint systems.
About the formula
The tannic acid formula chemically reacts with the rust. It turns it into a black compound that bonds to the surface and helps keep moisture out, which slows further corrosion. It is phosphoric acid free. The spray can makes it quick to apply over fences, gates and other awkward shapes, and the result is a black finish.
Where to use it
Indoors: rusted machinery, equipment and metal furniture that you plan to repaint.
Outdoors: rusted gutters, roofs, garden furniture, fencing, gates, trailers and other machinery and equipment.
Suitable surfaces are rusted steel and iron (ferrous metals). It is not intended for clean, rust-free metal.
How to use it
Wire brush, scrape or sand off loose rust, flaking paint, dirt, oil and grease so the surface is clean and dry. Work outdoors or in a well-ventilated area, and keep the surface cool and out of wind and direct heat. Shake the can well, then spray light, even coats over the rust until it is covered. For the best protection, overcoat within 3 months of treating the surface. Use Dy-Mark Primer first, then a Dy-Mark MetalPro Quick Dry topcoat colour. After use, invert the can and spray until only clear gas comes out, then wipe the nozzle tip clean. Follow the directions on the can.
Important notes
Apply to rusted surfaces only, not as a rust-preventative coat on clean metal. It may not stop further rusting if applied over heavy, thick rust scale, so remove loose scale first. It is not recommended for permanent immersion in fresh or salt water. Do not apply zinc-rich primers or cold galvanising coatings over the converted surface. Test a small area first if you are unsure how it will suit your project.
