Description
The Empire 225mm Polycast Torpedo Level is a compact, pocket-friendly level for checking that a surface is level, plumb or sitting at 45 degrees, whether you are hanging a shelf or setting out a trade job. Its tough Polycast frame is built for a long working life and keeps the level accurate and light enough to carry on a tool belt.
About the product
The frame is made from Polycast, a strong plastic material that does not conduct electricity and insulates against heat and cold. Three yellow acrylic vials sit in the body so you can read plumb, level and 45 degrees without changing tools. The 225mm (9 inch) length suits tight spots where a full-size spirit level will not fit. This model has no magnet, so it is best used by hand against the surface you are checking.
Where to use it
Indoors: hanging shelves, cabinets, pictures and brackets, checking window and door frames, and setting appliances or fixtures.
Onsite: framing, fencing and general carpentry where a small, quick-reading level is handy.
How to use it
- Wipe the working edge and the surface so dirt does not throw off the reading.
- Hold the level firmly against the surface and read the vial that matches the angle you need: level, plumb or 45 degrees.
- The bubble should sit centred between the two lines on the vial. Check it from directly above the vial for the clearest reading.
- To confirm accuracy, take a reading, flip the level end for end and read it again. Both readings should match.
Important notes
This is a non-magnetic level and it does not come with a case. It is a hand tool for general levelling tasks, so for long runs consider a longer level. Avoid dropping it on hard surfaces, as impacts can affect any level's accuracy over time.

Care and storage
Wipe clean with a damp cloth after use and dry before storing. Keep it in a toolbox, pouch or on a hook, away from heavy items that could knock or bend it. Avoid leaving it in extreme heat, such as on a car dashboard, for long periods.
