Description
The Gecko 13W Weatherproof Lantern Bug Zapper is a plug-in, chemical-free way to cut down flying insects around patios, balconies, courtyards and small backyards. It uses a UV lamp to draw bugs in and a high voltage grid to zap them, and its weather-resistant lantern body can hang from a hook or sit on a flat surface.
About the product
The unit uses a 13W UV lamp with an Edison screw fitting, and a 1100V grid does the zapping. The grid is vertical and self-cleaning, so dead insects fall straight into the removable catcher tray below. The housing is high impact plastic with a UV inhibitor to help it stand up to sun exposure outdoors. It is rated IPX4 for splash resistance, which means it can be installed outside, and it meets Australian and New Zealand electrical safety standards.
Where to use it
Indoors: not intended for indoor use.
Outdoors: patios, decks, balconies, courtyards, verandahs and small backyards where you want to keep flying insects down without sprays or other chemicals.
How to use it
- Hang the zapper from a suitable hook or stand it on a flat, stable surface.
- Plug the 240V lead into a protected, suitable outdoor power point.
- For best results, place it away from where people gather and away from other competing light sources. A hanging height of around 2.5 m is a good starting point.
- Empty the catcher tray regularly. The vertical grid is self-cleaning, so dead bugs drop into the tray.
- When the lamp needs replacing, it can be changed without tools. The replacement is a 13W Gecko UV lamp (lamp code GKOCOM43G).

Important notes
This is an electrical product and the grid carries a high voltage, so never touch the grid while the unit is plugged in. IPX4 means resistance to splashes, not immersion, so keep the unit out of standing water. Results depend on placement and on how much competing light is nearby. The manufacturer provides a 12-month warranty.

Care and storage
Unplug the unit before emptying the tray, cleaning or changing the lamp, and let the lamp cool first. Keep it out of reach of children and pets, and do not use it if the housing or lead is damaged. Wipe the housing with a dry or slightly damp cloth. If you are storing it for the off-season, clean it, make sure it is dry and keep it in a cool, dry spot.
