Description
Gorilla Ultimate Tape is the brand's toughest cloth tape, supplied here as a single black 48mm x 18.2m roll for hauling, strapping, patching, bundling and lifting jobs around the home, workshop and site. Gorilla rates it at five times the tensile strength of its original Gorilla Tape. It is designed for heavy loads rather than everyday taping.
About the formula
The tape combines a weather-resistant outer shell, a high tensile cloth layer and a double-thick, rubber-based adhesive. The thick adhesive layer bites into smooth, rough and uneven surfaces. The reinforced cloth is strong enough that you cut it with a utility knife or scissors instead of tearing it by hand. Gorilla states that a single loop of tape can hold more than 360kg. That figure comes from independent tensile testing in a controlled environment with specific preparation, so allow a generous safety margin on real jobs.
Where to use it
Indoors: bundling pipes, cables, timber and offcuts, patching and reinforcing packaging or equipment, and strapping loads in the workshop or garage.
Outdoors: hauling and lifting loops, securing tarps and covers, and patching or holding items in damp or changeable weather, thanks to the moisture-resistant, weather-resistant shell.
Suitable materials include wood, stone, stucco, brick, metal and vinyl. The manufacturer also states the adhesive sticks to most plastics, including polyethylene and polypropylene. It is not recommended on materials with a high oil or plasticiser content, such as EPDM rubber or PVC. Test a small area first on any surface you are unsure about.
How to use it
Make sure the surface is clean, dry and free of dust, oil and grease. Cut the tape to length with a utility knife or scissors. Apply it carefully and smooth out any air pockets or ridges as you go. For lifting, hauling or bundling loops, keep the tape free of creases and folds, because these can reduce its strength. Use extra wraps or additional tape for heavier loads. Apply at room temperature where possible. Store the roll in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight.
Important notes
This is not a hand-tear tape, so keep a knife or scissors handy. Take care when handling heavy loads, because serious injury can occur if a load or loop fails. Do not use it as a substitute for rated lifting or rigging equipment where safety depends on the load rating. Do not use it on PVC or EPDM rubber, as the adhesive is not suited to these. Gorilla's published guidance for the Ultimate tape is for application between about 4°C and 49°C, with continuous service up to about 65°C.
