Description
Grunt Black Shock Cord is a 6mm braided elastic cord supplied in a 20m length, made for tying down and securing tarps, trailer loads and boat or caravan covers. The stretch-and-recover action absorbs jolts and keeps a cover snug, so it suits bungee-style jobs where a fixed rope would work loose.
About the product
The core is latex rubber, wrapped in a braided jacket built to resist abrasion. The jacket is UV protected and the cord is made to cope with weather, sunlight, oil, petrol, rot and mildew. That makes it a practical multi-purpose cord for outdoor use. The black finish suits most tarps, covers and trailers.
Where to use it
Indoors: garage, shed and workshop jobs such as holding bundled items, making your own bungee cords or securing tarps over stored gear.
Outdoors: holding down tarpaulins, trailer covers, boat covers and caravan covers, plus general tie-down and camping tasks.
How to use it
- Cut the cord to the length you need with sharp scissors or a utility knife.
- Fit hooks, clips or toggles, or tie it off with a knot that suits the job.
- Stretch the cord evenly across the cover or load, then anchor it at a secure point.
- Check the tension and the anchor points from time to time, especially after windy weather or a long trip.
Important notes
Shock cord is intended for securing light covers and loads. It is not suitable for lifting, towing or safety-critical applications. Do not stretch it beyond a comfortable working range. Make sure the cord is firmly anchored, because a cord that slips or snaps can recoil quickly. Cord that is cracked, frayed or has lost its stretch should be replaced.

Care and storage
Wear eye protection when stretching or releasing the cord under tension, and keep it away from sharp edges that could cut the jacket. Rinse off salt, dirt or oil and let the cord dry before storing it. Store coiled in a cool, dry place out of prolonged direct sunlight when not in use.
