Description
The Grunt 4mm x 20m Black Shock Cord is a long roll of stretchy, hard-wearing bungee cord for tying down tarps and covers and for general securing jobs around the home, trailer, boat or caravan. A rubber core gives it the give needed to absorb shock and keep tension, and a braided outer jacket protects the core from wear.
About the product
The cord is made from latex rubber with a braided jacket. The manufacturer says it is UV protected and resists oil, petrol, rot, mildew, sunlight and general weathering. At 4mm thick it suits light to medium tie-down and bundling work, and the 20m length lets you cut your own bungees to whatever size you need.
Where to use it
Indoors: making custom bungee cords, bundling or holding items in sheds, garages and workshops, and general hobby or craft securing.
Outdoors: holding down tarpaulins, and securing trailer, boat and caravan covers, camping gear and canopies.
How to use it
- Measure and cut the cord to length with sharp scissors or a knife. Allow extra length for the knots or end fittings you plan to use.
- Finish the ends with secure knots, hooks, clips or cord ends. Stop the ends from fraying by sealing or fitting end caps if you want a tidy finish.
- Stretch the cord over the load or cover and fix it to a secure anchor point so it sits snug without being overstretched.
- Check the cord regularly and replace it if the jacket is worn, cut or the core looks damaged.
Important notes
The manufacturer has not published a load rating or stretch limit for this cord, so do not use it for lifting, towing or any application where failure could cause injury. Overstretching, sharp edges and heavy wear will shorten its life. Take care when releasing a stretched cord, as it can snap back.
