Description
Grunt Shock Cord is a stretchy, black latex rubber cord with a braided outer jacket, supplied here as an 8mm x 5m length for securing tarps, covers and loads. The elastic core absorbs shock and keeps tension on whatever it is holding, which makes it a handy general-purpose cord for the shed, the boat, the trailer or the caravan.
About the product
The core is made from latex rubber and is wrapped in a braided jacket designed to resist abrasion. The cord is UV protected for outdoor use and is resistant to oil, petrol, rot, mildew and general weathering. The 8mm diameter is the thicker option in the Grunt shock cord range.
Where to use it
Indoors: making your own bungee cords, tying down stored items, and general securing jobs around the garage or workshop.
Outdoors: holding down tarpaulins, and fitting trailer, boat and caravan covers or canvas.
How to use it
- Cut the cord to the length you need with sharp scissors or a utility knife.
- Pair it with hooks, cord ends or shock cord buttons to make custom bungee cords.
- Run it across the load or cover, stretch it to take up the slack, then hook or tie it off at a secure anchor point.
- Seal or melt the cut ends if you want to stop the jacket from fraying (take care with heat).
Important notes
This is a general-purpose elastic cord and is not rated for lifting, towing or safety-critical load restraint. Check the cord, anchor points and fittings regularly. Replace the cord if you see cuts, a worn jacket or a loss of stretch. Make sure the load is properly secured and legal for transport.
