Description
Gyprock Pre-Mixed Cornice Cement is a ready-to-use adhesive for fixing cornice to plasterboard or fibre cement at wall and ceiling junctions, supplied here as a 6kg re-sealable pail for home renovators. There is no mixing from powder. You stir it, apply it and fix the cornice. It also suits repairing existing cornice and cornice joints.
About the formula
A water-based, drying-type compound that grips well on first contact and builds a high bond strength as it dries. It is made in Australia by CSR Gyprock as part of the Gyprock DIY range. Because it is pre-mixed, it stays workable in the pail between jobs as long as the lid is put back on. The pail is re-sealable.
Where to use it
Indoors: fixing cornice at wall and ceiling junctions, buttering mitres and finishing cornice joints in residential rooms, and repairing existing cornice joints.
Outdoors: not intended for exterior use.
Suitable substrates are plasterboard and fibre cement. It is intended for use with Gyprock cornice.
How to use it
1. Remove the lid and stir the compound to a smooth consistency, using clean containers and tools.
2. Measure and cut the cornice lengths to size using a saw and mitre box or a mitre guide.
3. Apply generous beads (about 10mm) to the back of the cornice along the top and bottom edges, and to the mitres. A stud adhesive applicator or a small broadknife works well.
4. Press each section into place, then finish the joints and mitres.
5. Put the lid back on straight away when you are not using it. Clean tools with water while the product is still wet.
Important notes
Remix before each use. Discard any product that has started to dry. Store the pail in a dry place out of direct sunlight with the lid sealed. Shelf life is 12 months from the date of manufacture. The retailer data lists this product as not easy to sand, so use it as a fixing cement rather than a sanding finish coat. Always check the cornice and substrate suit the job before starting.
