Description
Kinetic Heavy Duty Thread Seal Tape is a pink PTFE plumber's tape for sealing threaded pipe and fitting connections, supplied here as a handy pack of five 12mm x 10m rolls. It gives a clean, positive seal on screwed joints and helps stop leaks at plumbing and heating connections, with a wide working temperature range for hot and cold duty.
About the formula
This is a PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) film tape in a heavy duty grade, coloured pink for easy identification on the job. PTFE is naturally corrosion resistant, so the tape will not rust or degrade the way some paste-type sealants can. It is rated for a working temperature of -100°C to 250°C. The tape is not an adhesive: it works by filling the small gaps between mating threads as the joint is tightened.
Where to use it
Plumbing: threaded water pipe connections and screwed brass fittings, which is the primary application listed for this pack.
Heating: threaded joints in heating pipework and similar screwed connections.
Suitable pipe and fitting materials include plastic, brass, copper, aluminium, galvanised steel and iron.
How to use it
Make sure the threads are clean and free of oil, dust and old sealant. Wrap the tape onto the male thread in the same direction the thread turns, so the tape does not unwind when the fitting is tightened. Keep light tension on the tape so it moulds into the thread form. Use several overlapping wraps (typically about four for small threads, with more for larger sizes), then screw the fitting together and tighten as normal. Test the joint under pressure before putting the system into service.
Important notes
Wrapping against the direction of the thread can cause the tape to bunch up and unwind. Do not over-wrap, as too much tape can make fittings hard to assemble or crack plastic female fittings. Check that the tape is approved for your specific application, such as potable water or gas, before use, as approval details for this exact pack are not confirmed here. Keep away from open flames and do not use beyond the stated temperature range.
