Description
The Makita DTM50ZX5 is a cordless 18V oscillating multi-tool for cutting, sanding and detail work in tight spots, supplied here as a skin-only unit with a starter accessory kit and tool box. It runs on Makita 18V lithium-ion batteries (sold separately), so it slots straight into an existing Makita cordless set-up without adding another battery platform.
About the product
The tool uses a dial to set speed anywhere from 6,000 to 20,000 oscillations per minute, with a soft start that helps you land the blade accurately on the workpiece. A barrel-style grip, a single LED job light and a battery capacity warning lamp keep it comfortable and practical to use. An anti-restart function stops the tool starting up by itself when a battery is fitted after the switch has been left on. The accessory head can be set at 12 positions, every 30 degrees through 360 degrees, which helps when you are working at awkward angles. Accessories are compatible with Bosch OIS (Oscillating Interface System) fittings, and the hex wrench stores on the tool for quick changes.
Where to use it
Indoors: flush-cutting door jambs and skirting, trimming architraves, plunge cuts in sheet material, sanding corners and detail areas.
Outdoors: trimming timber on decks and fences, cutting and shaping in confined spots around the home or on site.
How to use it
Fit a charged Makita 18V battery, choose the accessory that suits the job and fit it using the supplied hex wrench. Set the head angle that gives you the best access, then dial in the speed. Let the tool reach speed before it contacts the work and let the blade or pad do the cutting rather than forcing it. The kit includes:

Important notes
This is a skin-only unit. A battery and charger are not included and must be purchased separately. Use accessories that are designed for the material you are cutting or sanding, and replace worn blades and sanding sheets promptly for best results. An optional dust extraction system is available for this tool.
