Description
Moroday Double Sided Body Mounting Tape is a grey acrylic mounting tape in a wide 40mm x 10m roll, made for automotive and marine fixing jobs where the bond has to cope with weather, water and movement. It gives a lasting, weather resistant bond to a variety of surfaces, and the manufacturer says it can be removed without damaging paintwork.
About the formula
The tape is acrylic and is described by the manufacturer as viscoelastic, so it can absorb some of the thermal movement that stresses rigid fixings. It resists water absorption, is UV stable and has high temperature resistance. The manufacturer also states it gives extra protection against acids and solvents. The roll is 1mm thick and 40mm wide, with a double sided adhesive layer for a clean, hidden join between two parts.
Where to use it
Indoors: bonding and sealing jobs, filling small spaces or gaps between parts, and attaching weatherseals.
Outdoors: automotive and marine applications such as body mounting and trim, and other weather-exposed fixing where UV and moisture are a concern.
The manufacturer describes the bond as suitable for a variety of surfaces. Because it does not list specific materials, test the tape on a small, hidden area first, especially on low energy plastics, textured finishes or freshly painted surfaces.
How to use it
Clean both surfaces so they are free of dust, oil, grease and wax, and let them dry fully. Apply the tape to one surface and press it down firmly along its full length. Then remove the liner and bring the second part into position. Check the alignment before pressing it together, then apply firm, even pressure over the whole joint. Follow any additional instructions from the manufacturer.
Important notes
The manufacturer has not published a cure time, load rating or working temperature range for this size, so test the tape for your application before committing to a critical or load-bearing fix. It can be removed without damaging paintwork, but results depend on the paint and its condition. A small hidden test is recommended on older or repainted finishes. Store the roll in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight until you need it.
