Description
Oz-Oil Decking Oil is a multipurpose exterior timber oil from Prep Productions, pitched as a five-in-one product: one can covers your deck, outdoor furniture, pergola, fences and gates. Blended from natural plant oils, it soaks into the timber to preserve and seal it from within, leaving a natural, semi-transparent appearance rather than a glossy film. A practical bonus for occasional users: the manufacturer states it is non-evaporative and will not gel in the can, so leftover oil keeps for the next job rather than going to waste.
Formula overview
A blend of natural seed oils and waxes carried in dipentene, a citrus-derived solvent. The oil is lightly pigmented and semi-clear with a citrus odour, and works by penetrating the boards rather than coating them.
Where to use it
Outdoor: external timber including decking, cladding, railings, joists, bearers, rafters, pergolas, garden furniture, fences and gates.
Indoor: not intended for interior use. This is an exterior timber oil.
How to use
- Stir well before use, as the oils may settle in the can.
- Make sure the timber is clean, dry and free of old coatings. Follow the can label for preparation guidance.
- Apply with a brush or lambswool applicator.
- Apply 2 coats, allowing 24 hours before recoating.
- Coverage is up to 12 square metres per litre depending on timber porosity.
Important notes
- The finish is semi-transparent. It enriches the timber tone but will not deliver an opaque or solid colour.
- Like all penetrating oils, results depend on surface preparation. Weathered grey timber should be cleaned back to sound wood first.
- Check the can label for clean-up directions and detailed preparation steps.

Safety
Combustible liquid (flash point around 68°C). Keep away from heat, sparks and open flames, and store below 30°C, tightly closed, in a well-ventilated area away from strong oxidisers. Rags soaked in decking oil can self-heat and spontaneously combust: lay used rags flat to dry outdoors or soak them in water before disposal. May irritate skin and can cause an allergic skin reaction in people sensitised to citrus solvents, so wear gloves when applying. If swallowed, do not induce vomiting, rinse the mouth and call the Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26. Toxic to aquatic life: prevent washings and spills entering drains or waterways. Keep out of reach of children. Refer to the manufacturer's Safety Data Sheet before use.
